I've seen madder root and rose clay used in cold process soaps. I'm trying to get a bright red color. If anyone has had success with either of these could you let me know how much I would have to use to get a bright red?
If you have any other suggestions on what to use from WSP (wholesalesuppliesplus.com) I'll take all suggestions. I'm getting an order together with them and need a bright red that will hold up in cold process soap.
Thanks

Rose clay makes the soap a mauve rose color. Think Victorian Mauve. It will not make red.

Haven't used madder root, but here are some pics:

I did see some things about Peacock Dyes Ruby Red that will give a Santa Suit kind of red. I have no experience with it though.

This is the closest I see in Lab Colors, no experience there either:

I have tried Spanish Paprika, which is very red, but once in soap, it is more of an orange.

Hopefully someone here has made a lovely red and can direct you to an exact fit.

I use madder root at trace for a red, it's gorgeous but it's not a bright red and unfortunately it leaves color on the sink and wash rag. You may be better off with a synthetic if you aren't wanting 100% natural.

Thanks for letting me know it makes a mess on the rag and sink. Looks like I'll have to go with a synthetic. I'll look into an oxide.

I didn't know that madder root would color the sink. In fact, doesn't he show in this tutorial that even at 35% it won't bleed:

But if you are looking for bright you will need a pigment/oxide for that.

In that tutorial the 35% is an infused oil vs. putting the ground root directly in as I was referring to.

The infusions seem lovely but you don't get a red red. I did it by putting the root in at trace at an amount that would make red vs. pink and I think at an amount that gives a real red color you get the bleed.
Not red lather, just leaves on the sink and cloth.
