Here in Australia, lush staff were underpaid.

And why is it people are generally shorted pay but rarely overpaid......

I got over paid once. But I ratted on myself. It was around $1000 so didn't want a screw up in my bank

I am amazed that so many employees were underpaid and didn't raise a stink about it long ago. All my years of working, I always double checked my paycheck every single time I got paid. I kept meticulous records of how many hours I worked, which was overtime, which was compensatory time, which was paid holidays, which was premium pay (Sundays, night shift, etc) and even when I worked the time change shifts (twice a year, this affects night shift workers in the US at least.) If I found a discrepancy, I immediately went to HR to straighten it out.

I find it hard to follow payslips earlene, including knowing how much tax should be withheld etc. I look at my payslips but unless I received significantly less than I usually get for the fortnight, I'd probably have no idea if I was being underpaid
