I want to make a liquid soap in the coming weeks but I don't want to just jump head on into it. I found the following blog links in my search but I've been hesitant in buying a book from Catherine Failor due to how old it is.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Hot-Process-Liquid-Soapmaking/?ALLSTEPS

http://www.islandartisansupply.ca/liquid/

http://www.humblebeeandme.com/make-basic-liquid-soap-easy-way/

Does anyone else have any more blogs or Info that could be shared? I had a tough time procuring what I came up with. Also, should I buy the book?

You should not buy the book until you understand that it was published before the internet was so widely available, and it shows it. It is a good resource later in your experience, though.

You need to start in our forum. Lots of good discussion there. It is also one of the best resources I have found.

Understand this before you start, there is no need to neutralize if you use a good calculator, and not a negative superfat. It is just an unnecessary step. It was necessary back in the day before the internet, and guessing on SAP value of each oil.

Susie's thread, too: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=49852

I have Failor's book, and while it was great for its time, there much easier/less fussy, less time consuming methods that have come along in recent years that have somewhat revolutionized making liquid soap at home. The link above to Susie's thread and the link that Shari gave are excellent places to start and make for so much better reading than any book or blog I've ever run across......except for that loooong pioneering glycerin liquid soap thread over at the Dish forum (that's what finally gave me the courage to make my first liquid soap a few years ago).
