Hellooooo hi hey!

I've been making soap for about 10 years since I became really allergic to Palm oil and perfume. I love it! But am also only making very basic stuff.

Can someone point me in the direction of, or advise me, on how to make a shampoo bar that doesn't need a vinegar rinse, please? I recently bought a shampoo bar for my horse which makes his coat, mane, and tail so lovely and soft and smooth! And I thought it'd be excellent to be able to make something like this for me, and for him! The soap is $10 for a tiny little bar and he's very hairy so it takes almost two bars to wash him!

Anyway, my head would also appreciate the wonderful finish minus stuffing around with acv rinsing!

Thank you and I'm looking forward to looking around this forum!

My wife found Genny's Shampoo Bar quite nice. As long as you know the risks associated with lye based shampoo bars, here's the link...

Recipe in Post #1.
She specifically asked for a recipe that doesn't need a vinegar rinse. With Genny's Shampoo Bar being a lye based bar, it will definitely need rinsing.

@AbbyAbby, you will want to check out syndet (synthetic detergent) shampoo. DIY Bath & Body (on Etsy) has one that I make and love. (See my avatar) I've been using it since February and am in love with my hair.

I agree, any lye soap used on hair will require a acid rinse.

I've also started using a syndet bar and like it very much.

Oooh thank you. I didn't know there was different soap to lye based. I am about to click the link right now. Do they lather like soap? I'm really clueless aye! But I only make olive / coconut lye soap. Tried lard once coz my mum loves it but I thought it smelt like roast dinner

They (syndet shampoo bars) lather beautifully! Basically, they're just like bottled shampoo but without the water.

@AbbyAbby lard is wonderful in soap. If it was piggy smelling then it most likely got too hot while melting.
It only needs to be warm enough to be clear, never hot.

Hiya Abby, and welcome. This subject has been discussed many times -- just search "Shampoo Bars" to see what I mean -- and the discussions have been heavily weighted on the side of syndets -- mainly because those of us who make lye-based shampoo bars were pretty much under a "gag order" because the syndet majority felt so strongly about lye based shampoo being bad for hair. Just keep that in mind as this discussion moves along.

You may or may not need the ACV rinse. It's purpose is to get all the soap scum out and restore the acid balance of the scalp but that happens in 20 minutes after rinsing any way, or so I've read. LOL

A lot depends on your hair type and how much product you normally use and whether your hair is bleached, colored, permed, etc. There are other options to ACV -- beer is one, and I posted a lemon parsley rinse on this thread:

There is a period of adjustment that takes place when using lye-based shampoo or shampoo bars. Here's a couple of links for more information to help you get started:

It might be possible to duplicate it. You can post the ingredients in the Recipe Feedback Forum to get input on formulating the bar... Here's a link:
