I have a recipe for a shampoo bar using the following oils.
8 oz olive oil
8 oz coconut oil
8 oz almond oil
8 oz castor oil
.7 oz avocado butter
1-2 oz essential oil scent

4.5 oz lye
10 oz water

Will this bar work as a good conditioning shampoo bar??
What could I substitute for the castor oil?? I have Palm oil and shae butter and cocoa butter.
Also what essential oil could I use for dark hair??
I have castor oil on the way but want to make this bar now.

I wouldn't substitute anything for the castor oil as it is a very conditioning oil. Many shampoo bar recipes use it as 15%-20% of the oils. I, however, would drop the coconut down to 10% or lower. I use just 5% in my shampoo bar because it can be very drying to my hair. Shea would be a nice addition.

That is the recipe for the first shampoo bar I made. It is not a bad recipe. However, using that much castor oil will result in a soft bar that remains sticky for quite some time. Especially if you put it in individual molds.

My second shampoo bar recipe is this:

CO 10%
OO 22.5%
Castor oil 17.5%
Lard 45%
Jojoba oil 5%

Superfat 8%

It is just today cured enough to try, so I will let you know when I have tried it. But, this time I used a log mold. It was unmoldable at 24 hours.
