hello all, i am looking for some advice if possible with my first attempt at candle making. I have bought 2mm cotton wicks (see below) and some soy wax flakes (Golden brands GB415) what i need help with is what diameter candles can i make with these wicks. Being in Dubai suppliers are hard to come by and these wicks and wax was all that was available and the information on the items is none existent, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks Andi.

so i went and bought two glass containers the smaller is 2" and the bigger is 2 3/4", i also added some jasmine FO.
total wax used was 242 grams and @6% FO i calculated i needed 13 grams FO unfortunately the bottle i bought only had 10 grams so I used all of it. Candles smell lovely when cold, however there is no smell when burning, i think the smaller jar (2") is just slightly to small, the wax is melted all the way to the sides of the glass and the glass is getting a little warm, however it burns perfectly(so far), the larger glass (2 3/4") has a lip of wax around the outside edge of the glass of about 3mm, the glass doesn't get warm, again it is burning perfectly (so far).
So my questions are:- 1) am i right the larger of the jars it the correct size i should be using?
2) why is the no smell when burning? poor quality FO? not enough FO?

Photos, couldn't get the to attach to the other post

Candle making is a strange science and so much depends on so many other factors, inc wax, wick size, container size, fragrance %age and quality.

Where was the FO from, was it one designed to be used in candles or was it one from a store? IMO 6% FO is too low in soy, I use between 8-10% depending on which wax I'm using and the fragrance.

Interested why do you think the larger one is correctsize ? With the right wick size you should get a full even melt pool right to the edge of the container, which will get warm but how much depends on what its made from.

Hi LilyJo,

The FO was just from my local supermarket for oil burners was all i could find! Finding products here is much more difficult than in the UK, even online can be hard, I do have a supplier for Doterra EO but they are obviously expensive and I was under the impression that EO doesn't work as well as FO and that's without the cost considerations. Do you have a FO brand that you recommend? Maybe I can get it shipped cost dependent! My other option is my daughter is flying out at Easter maybe she could bring some with her (depends on suitcase space after my pork products order).

I assumed that the larger one is the correct one because the smaller one got so hot it couldn't be picked up, on the second burn the larger one melted right to the edge of the glass and the little bit that was on the sides from the first burn melted down into the pool as well .

Thanks
Andi
