I made a batch of soap just now for my sisters baby shower...but I'm pretty sure its not going to make it there. I noticed the batter getting REALLY thick so my plans for a nice in the pot swirl went out the window right away. I didn't even get to add my fragrance oil...I went back to look at my formula on SOAPCALC and was puzzled on why this happened...then AH HA it was set for KOH and not NAOH!! whyyyy?? :( :( :( :( Do you think this is what went wrong? I'm guessing I can't use this soap?

So you've used 151g of NaoH with 794g oils? It will still be OK to use. Luckily you had set a high superfat. Let me do some calcs and get back to you. Maybe you could grate it up and make a confetti (scented) soap with it so it's not wasted?

ETA - sorry but no, it is lye heavy. The maximum weight of NaOH required for that amount of oils would be 117g and that's with 0% superfat. Maybe someone could give some advice on how to rebatch it as hot process and add some more oils? I'm not experienced at that sort of thing.

Ahh thank you. Yes I wasn't sure the amount of NaoH needed for my oils. Yes the confetti soap was an idea I also had :) As long as its safe to use! I appreciate you <3

You can rebatch it with the missing oils. To figure out how much you need, start by adjusting your recipe to show NaOH instead of KOH. Then fiddle around with oil numbers until you reach 0% or higher SF.

You could also salt out the soap to make laundry soap, but it may be pretty harsh - I’d only use it for whites just to be sure.

Lovely recipe! So sorry about the Oopsie! :( Been there; done that! 😂

I recently read that lye heavy soap will cure over time. Give it 6 months - 1 year to see what happens. If you do that, please post results in this thread. :)

You can rebatch it with the missing oils.
:thumbs: I like this option. OVEN REBATCH (CP)

Grate up the batch as soon as it is hard enough to grate but not sticky. Wear gloves!
Once the grated up soap is molten, add the additional oils + fragrance. Give it a good stir to mix thoroughly, then return it to the oven for about 5 minutes or so. Give it another quick stir and mold up.

ETA: According to my calculations, you need to add 23% more oils to the batch. Also recalculate the amount of fragrance needed.

GOOD LUCK!
