I dont know what I did wrong?can someone help? should I just cook the paste longer?
Yes, keep cooking. Can you tell us what your exact recipe and process was so we can help in more detail?
People will need more details than that to give you advice. Your exact recipe would be helpful.
The traditional way of making liquid soap, you intentionally make it lye heavy then come back and neutralize later. Newer methods have you using a superfat so you don't have to do that.
Can still keep cooking if I removed it of the heat?I cooked the paste last night I tried it and it zapped me but I want to try to safe it
Yes, you can put it back on the heat, no problem. I've done it several times because I'm working on the paste, get called away from home for work, get back home many hours later, then turn the heat back on. Keep cooking, on low, until there's no more zap. Since you have a 1% SF I'm surprised you still got zapped. Even my -2% SF laundry paste won't zap me after a few hours.
Thank you so much I will cook it longer
I just realized you have a 50% lye solution which might be part of the problem. When making KOH soap paste, most people prefer to use a 25% solution. You also don't have "90% purity" checked which will increase your SF more than the 1%. Are you sure your KOH purity is 100%? Most aren't. When I put your numbers into Soap Calc using 90% pure KOH at 1% SF you should have used 162.8 gms KOH. Playing around with the calc I found the 146 gms of 90% KOH will give you about an 11% SF, which is even more strange that it still zapped you. Are you confident you weighed everything correctly? Not trying to be snotty or anything, just trying to rule stuff out.
I honestly hope my scale works but I'm going to start fresh and try a new one with 25 % and se how I do ..to be honest I'm new to soap making and i dont really know how to formulate I'm trying to learn
Doing is the best way to learn! When you formulate your next soap paste using KOH, make sure you tick the small box under KOH that says "90% KOH". That way it will calculate the lye correctly to what you've probably got. Definitely don't pitch the batch you just made. If it's still zapping you after all this time, you can save it with a bit of work, then use it as household cleaner and laundry soap.
If you don't mind me asking, what's the purpose of the soap you formulated? Body wash? Laundry soap? etc?
ETA: If it's for hand washing or showering, it'll be VERY drying.
Thank you so much ...and I dont mind your question..I want to make face soap and soap for my kids I have two boys and we live in a rural area and I was hoping i learn and make extra income...
Before you formulate more LS, there a couple of threads you should read. Susie has a very easy recipe that's not drying and IrishLass has a great thread about using the glycerin method. Let me see if I can find them.....
Ok thank you I was really hoping it would come out clear to add color ..so that's why I was using glycerin and coconut oil
Well, shoot. I can't find exactly what I was looking for but this is a good thread to read. Plus, I've gotta run to the grocery store if my family wants any type of food at dinner time, lol. Hopefully IrishLass and/or Susie will come along to attach their threads. Good luck Cristina and BTW, welcome to the forum!
Thank you so...so much ...hope you and your family have a wonderful day..
Here's IrishLass' thread. It's long, but a very informative and great read!
