Hello folks!

New here and saying, hello! I've been making soap for several months now and have made about 20 batches. One thing I'm currently having a problem with is my pine tar soap "bleeding" in the shower. I've searched the forum to find a thread on this but haven't found one yet. I use 20% pine tar and add it into my oils before I add the lye water. I make it using the hot process method.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

Welcome MountainKing!

I've never made pine tar soap myself, but we have a few amongst us here on the forum that make it. Hopefully they will chime in soon!

Welcome! (totally new here too)
I reeeeally want to make tar pine soap too! I struggle with skinissues (my derm says it is a mild form of psoriasis, I get it in my scalp and face) and my brother the same thing, but he`s worse off than me.
Hope I can pick your brain re the brand of tar you use, I can`t find anything here that is safe for soap:-?

Howdy and welcome!

I use PT at 15% and do not see too much bleeding in the shower. There is a little browning to my lather, but some of my discoloring FOs are even worse. My brand is SUP-er Pine Tar from a local feed store. MySoapyHeart, you might want to check out: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=42797

Hi, MySoapyHeart. In the past I used Bickmore http://www.bickmore.com/products/equine-care/pine-tar.html and I've seen many soapers using it, but I wanted something that was designated for use on skin, and I found Auson brand pine tar http://www.pinetarworld.com/shop/pine-tar/kiln-burned-pine-tar-773/. It's the only one I've found that's listed as pharmaceutical grade. It's made in Sweden and is expensive, but for me it's worth it.

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I wasn`t notified that you quoted me because one of the quotesymbols fell out in your reply so just lucky I went back again and saw it:)
Thanks, I have heard about that brand, really interesting! I actually found it on Amazon 5 or 6 months ago but the seller didn`t want to ship it to Norway, so tried to find it somewhere else that can ship it without costing me an arm and a leg (`cause I kind a need my arm for the soaping...)
No luck so far. But perhaps one day, I reeeally want to try it out on me and my brothers skin.
