I've looked but haven't found an answer to my question (it may be my search abilities but... ). I've used peppermint leaves in one soap and had it turn an ugly shade of brown that I'm still not sure whether I love or hate. I'll steer clear of added botanical matter for now, thanks.

My question is in regards to green tea as the liquid for dissolving the lye. Will it turn brown?

What about adding match powder to soap? Will it turn my soap brown?

I'm sure someone has tried one or the other, or both, which is why I'm asking rather than experimenting.

I have brewed peppermint tea - and used it in place of water for my soap, and I have also added Matcha Powder (nice bright green).
BOTH turned my soaps brown :(

I've used green tea and herbal fruit teas and all have instantly turned a hideous shade of brown when mixed with lye. The end result in the soap isn't so bad, though.
