Where do you go to find new recipes? Any good sites or books you recommend?

Good Recipes

I like the recipes found in The Soapmaker's Companion by Susan Miller Cavitch. They make 5 lb. batches which I think are the perfect size. There is everything from basic to gourmet (really good for the skin)

Yes! I have some books I really recomend!

For pure and Natural soaps I recommend these books.

Soap Recipes, by Elaine White, making modern soap with herbs beeswax and vegetable oils.

Country Living Handmade soap, by Mike Hulbert.

The Handmade Soap Book, by Melinda Coss.

Making Scented Soap, by Linda Hamblen.

A few of these books have melt and pour recipes as well. You can get most of them through the library.

I don't use other people's recipes. I generally use SoapCalc and create my own with three or four oils. I like SoapCalc because it gives a score for hardness, lather etc, so you can continue to adjust until you have a good score for everything.

I don't know if this is a good way, but it's a fun way!! I'm only new to soapmaking and it's certainly helps me learn about the qualities of different oils.

I have one book "Making Soaps & Scents" by Catherine Bardey

It seems easy and very well explained.
