You're welcome. I'm using up fragrance oils that either behave badly in soap or fade. I have been passing it out to my gal pals. Merry Christmas y'all 😘

There is a similar one that includes powdered milk - goat, coconut, your choice. Maybe on Emilie Lefler's YT channel? I've made them as inexpensive gifts, and they have been very well received. She also has a tutorial on how to make your own packaging for them.

I found this recipe on a website and I LOOOOVE it.

2 cups epsom salt
1/2 cup sea salt or rock salt
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid

This makes about 2 lbs for fragrance/essential oil calculations.
Hi Ugeauxgirl,
I want to make some of this for christmas presents.
I have all the ingredients and like the baking soda recipe.
Do you have to dry your epsom salts out or do you just mix all the ingredients together and bottle them?
Mine do not seem clumpy or damp.
I have read that once you add the EO or FO that they might go clumpy and that the mixture has to be dry so the baking soda doesn't expand.
For this reason I thought I should use plastic bottles but would prefer to use glass.
Am I worrying needlessly?

Yes, welcome back, @penelopejane! I always appreciated your encouragement when I was new to SMF. Sorry to hear about the lupus - that’s one of my DH’s issues, as well. We found out by accident that high doses of liposomal Vit C helps tamp down his flares and keep him in remission. But everyone is different and I hope you find what works for you! And that your bath salts turn out great, too. 😀

Hi Relle and Mobjack Bay
Thanks for the welcome. I am getting better. Went to a new specialist and I have been diagnosed with lupus - I’ve had for 22 years but no one diagnosed it. On medication now and trying to work out the best combination.

Still making soap!
Sorry to hear that about your lupus, but glad your still soaping. I think the bath salts would look nice in glass, I might give them a go myself.

Some of them did get hard last year. They were hard to get out of the container. If I were going to do them again this year I'd let them dry out a bit.

Oh, gosh, I‘m sorry to hear about the heath issues, but glad to hear that you have a diagnosis and hopefully there’s some significant relief in sight. Let us know how the bath salts turn out!

This recipe sounds like fun. Do you think it would be okay to add some mica to them for color?
With mica addition it may require polysorbate 80 to allow the mica to fully incorporate. In bath bomb making the addition of mica requires ps80.

Hi. So sorry about your missed diagnoses.

Powdered goats milk is divine mixed in bath salt recipe. Just made some a few weeks ago. Makes it difficult to want to get out of the tub!

Undiagnosed issues so difficult. Pleased that you finally have diagnosis. Auto immune seem difficult to diagnose. Regarding bath salts Have used recipes from HumbleBeeandme with superb results. Even though dried I found the addition of citric acid gave some gassing to the mix so left the jar seal loose. Did not realize that would assist in the evaporation of my lovely eo’s scents. Also on a more delicate note. Am sensitive to the magnesium in epsom salts. Long long baths mean more absorption of magnesium. Too much magnesium for me = intestinal duress. So have cut back on percentage of epsom salt when making bath salts for me. How did i discover this problem? Easy. Distressed abdominals the following day after long (hour plus) epsom baths. Looked up negative side effects of magnesium. Problem now solved.

Hi @penelopejane! It's nice to see you again and I'm sorry to hear that health issues have kept you away. I hope you find your perfect combination of meds soon. I know you didn't ask, but a friend with lupus has found that restorative yoga is helpful for her. I can't offer any advice on your bath salts questions. Do you have a concern about the mixture expanding enough to crack or break a glass container?

Bath salts are not my area of expertise, but I do make them a few times a year as gifts. I went on a hunt for how to make bath Salts that don't clump or lose scent from baking/being left open, and found a YouTuber with a recipe/suggestion that has worked so far for the non-fizzing salts I've made. She seems fairly knowledgeable from the videos I've seen, but maybe someone with a bit more experience can chime in.

Her suggestion is to add the wet ingredients to the dry powder (baking soda, corn starch, natrasorb, tapioca flour, etc) before mixing in the salt. I haven't tried fizzing bath salts yet with this method, but I plan on doing so in the near future, and will probably add the citric acid at the same time as the salt. Here's a link to her video if anyone wants to check it out, CreativeBathLab

As far as medical issues going undiagnosed or undetected, I feel your pain and am glad you got it figured out. It's honestly a travesty that so many people go undiagnosed for so long, how hard it is to find a great doctor, not to mention health insurance that will actually cover the necessities like testing and medications.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back. I've had such a difficult year. Am starting back with exercising this week and hopefully will continue.
AliOop - I will try Liposomal vit c. I'm prepared to try anything.
Mellonfriend - I only use natural colours so no mica for me. You can use rose or calendula petals for natural colour but then you have to clean the bath… I was thinking of using fine himalayan salt for pink colouring! I don't use himalayan salt in soap.
Bwtapestry - I'll look at humble bee recipes. I'm magnesium deficient so it shouldn't be a problem for me. I'll warn the girls I'm giving them to though.
Dibbles - yes any exercise (and lots of it) is recommended. Yes I am worried about exploding glass - it has happened according to reports on the internet. I think I'll use plastic, which I hate to do but it is for use in the bathroom and is probably safer from that point of view too.
Lucyfae - thank you for the link!

This is the type of bath salts I saw in the shop (they don’t sell them online so no exact photo. They were fizzy like my recipe above). They separated the rose petals out in a plastic bag on top but had a display version where they were all mixed in. They had a plastic container with a silicone seal.

I bought a square plastic container. I couldn’t find a round one on short notice (I live in the country miles from a big shopping centre) and Christmas is coming!).
