Hello. I am making my very first goat milk cp batch and want to know if the milk/lye solution is supposed to be this bright yellow? I don't think I scorched the milk but would love some feedback as to whether the finished bars will look closer to white or brown. I mixed powdered goat milk with water and then added lye and tried keeping the temperature down by using an ice bath.

Yes, lye will turn milk bright yellow, but that won't hurt the soap. You might try freezing the milk next time.

Thanks. I was anxious to try the goat milk and didn't wait until it was frozen solid. When I saw how much it changed in color, I got nervous and thought I may have ruined it!

This is the soap - not sure why it looks so funny on top. I used goat milk, peppermint essential oil, OO, CO, PO and red oxide for the top layer. Does anyone think it overheated? Smells great, just looks funny.
