This web app is like a musical time machine. Go back to the year you were born or any period you like and hear what the top of the charts sounded like in a continuous chronological medley. It goes to 1997 when you start it but you can select the year at the bottom.

One interesting time trip I can suggest is to go back to 1963. It's actually not that inspiring a year, but listen until it hits Feb 1964 and everything changes. It gave me goosebumps. And the Beatles seemed to trigger a transformation in musical tastes so that the quality of music at the top of the charts skyrocketed for years.

If you're interested in music, try it out. Have fun.

That's fun! I listened through some of the 80s and remembered in horror the over-packaged commercialism of synthesizers ruining what could have been good songs. But they were catchy!

I liked the http://poly-graph.co/timeless/ portion that measures songs by current plays on Spotify to categorize timelessness. My musical tastes don't lean to pop so I haven't heard many of the current ones, but it's interesting to see what people are currently listening to from decades past.
