GO TO 6.10 MINUTES

Here's a practically effortless way to clean an electric oven:
First, turn the oven on, let it warm to 150°F (65°C), and then turn it off.
Place a small bowl containing 1/2 cup ammonia on the top shelf and
a large pan of boiling water on the bottom shelf.
Close the oven door, and let it sit overnight.

My oven is as old as the house, 26 years. It's never been cleaned. It has one of those self-cleaning features but I don't like using it. I thought it was time to give it a good cleaning, went online and found what I think is the best/easiest way to clean an oven ever. It literally sparkled when I was done.

TIP: If your glass window is as covered in dark brown stains as mine was, you can rub gently with steel wool and soap or detergent. I was concerned that it would scratch the surface but as long as you keep soap between the glass and the steel wool, there is no trace of scratches. It's a good thing. ;)
