I mixed up the lye solution for a "mostly olive oil" soap before I remembered I need to add salt and sugar. I added it AFTER adding the lye and now the salt and sugar won't dissolve. Do I throw out the lye solution and start over? If so, what is the safest way to dump it?

If you decide to discard the lye solution, pour it slowly down your sink drain with LOTS of COLD running water. Let the water run for several minutes after you are done pouring the lye. If you can do this right before you wash clothes or bathe, that would be good too -- this will put more water down the drains to keep diluting any remaining lye in the plumbing.

ETA: But I would probably strain out the bits and use the lye solution too. :)

I agree with lsg- I would just strain it. And then if I was still determined to use some salt and sugar, I would just dissolve them in a little water first before adding to the solution.
