I am still trying to get my head around the fact that soap IS NOT CONDITIONING. And yet Dove says they add 1/4 cold cream to make it conditioning. Is this just an advertising ploy or does adding something like shea butter to my soap help. Please can someone set me straight

I'd think along the lines of "less stripping" when I think of conditioning soaps. Dove is now saying they add cold cream? I'd use cold cream on my face before I touch dove again and that stuff would break my face out.

I wondered about that too, and awhile back I found this:

Misschief is on the right track.

They say 1/4 Cleansing cream.... I think their thinking goes something like this: cream is made with oils and liquids in an emulsion; both are ingredients in soap. Therefore, they can say that there's cleansing cream in their soap. Just my two cents.

Omg i have been hearing/reading it wrong this whole time. Thank you for this!!!

Looks like im not the only person wondering about this. I would like to say false advertising but it technically isnt. Glad i am making my own soap now

Me, too! I remember that 1957 Dove commerical on television. That's about the time we got our very first television set! But, like you, Gaisy, I thought they said 1/4 cup of cleansing cream, which in mind means Cold Cream because that's what my mom called it back then.

These days, Dove advertises that they use 1/4 moisturizing cream, but like you remembered, back in the day they advertised it as being made with 1/4 cleansing cream. I wish they'd make their mind up- is it cleansing or moisturizing!?

Here's the famous vintage 1957 vintage Dove commercial:

1/4 cleansing cream? Does that mean that only 1/4 of the bar is soap?

Well as Dove is owned by Unilever whose cruelty free credentials are questionable to say the least, I cant say I would want to think about the tests they would have done on whatever cream they used in it!
