For me the odor happens after the soaps are around a year old, not when they are new
I've had the same experience. I usually got my lard from the supermarket. Perhaps I'm overheating. I can detect the lard smell in bars that are about a year old and had decided to give up working with lard altogether. I'll have to try the deodorized lard.

Has anyone tried a "deodorized lard"? I've been looking around for something to ensure no piggy smell without rendering fresh stuff myself.

When you search the internet for it this product pops up everywhere. Seems like a pretty decent deal $/lb (cheaper on other sites) but I'm hesitant to order 50lbs of it without knowing it's odorless.

Has anybody tried this stuff?

The price, with shipping, from the Foodservicedirect.com site is less than amazon.
