    Dear admins,

I accidentally posted to a very old thread because it appeared on the newest threads list, then realized it was a very old thread. So I went to delete my post and the delete button was missing. It is still missing, so I was wondering if this is a change to the forum, or if it is an anomaly that requires some sort of fix.

Either way, if I cannot delete the post, would you please do so for me:
    http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showpost.php?p=636419&postcount=37

    Thank you.

    Thank you.

Any information about the missing delete button?

The delete is seen for a short time after a post to give time to edit or delete. After the short time the post become permanent and a mod or admin will have to do the deleting.

I tried to delete a post immediately after posting (to figure out for someone else how to delete), and I could not find any option to delete.

Why, though? Why remove our option to delete posts? That was a nice safety option for when I think better of what I said, and need to get it down before anyone sees it.

Yeah I looked everywhere! I tried deleting about 1 minute after posting.

Yeah I have found the same thing. I think they changed an option in the phpBB setup (or an upgrade changed it for them - that happens all the time).

Thank you for that! But the real problem is that now I can no longer trust myself to read the forum in the middle of the night when my filter is weakest.

You can always edit it - delete everything you wrote and type in "deleted". That's what happens on other forums.

I hear ya. You can always try doing what I've lately gotten into the habit of doing to prime my 'filter' with difficult online discussions- I type out my reply in notepad, copy/paste it into the reply box, hit preview, then immediately take a short break by going to the kitchen to get a drink or maybe going to the girl's room while mulling things over in my mind and/or even praying about it, etc... When I come back to the computer and look at my previewed post, it's like I'm able to see it in a different light or with a fresh set of eyes and am better able to see what needs to be reworded before I finally press send.

Then again- Penelope makes a good point, too (just now saw her post when I hit preview)

You can still edit and delete a post for some time after you post it but once it's been established and part of the discussion it cannot.

I'm sorry but that is not what I see. Just today I replied to a post, and within a minute saw a new post about the same subject. I went immediately to delete and repost my reply, but the delete option was not there.

I have deleted posts here before so I know we have been able to, but it's not an option, no matter how soon after your post it is.

Yeah, that's what I did a day or two ago -- before I read this thread. So, there's a "Delete Button"? Cool.

There USED to be a delete button. It is no longer there. I suspect the admins and mods have the only delete buttons available. It makes me think long and hard before posting anything. Maybe that is the reason.

The delete button will stay gone but you have 3 hours if you need to edit a thread/post. Most forums do not have it where members can delete their own threads and posts. If you have a post that needs deleted, please contact a mod or Admin. We do try to keep all but spam threads/posts on the site as it helps keep the flow of conversations.
