First off, Thanks to all who have been so kind to answer our newbie questions. We were amazed how quickly the vegetable shortening soap traced and how hard the bars are, hope there good soap. Which leads to our next question how long does this soap need to cure before use? We used 75% veg. shortening 25% Olive Oil 7oz water 6oz lye, and 5oz coconut milk at trace. Thanks in advance.

Ideally, you should give a bar about 4 weeks to dry out, but realistically, I use them in a couple of weeks.

You can cut off a sliver after a few days and test for zap and then try that in the shower if you wish....just don't expect it to last for very long.

Sounds like nice soap. It will be lower in lather than some of the commercial soaps but it should be very mild on the skin with the oils you used. :)
