Not sure where to put this post, but didn't see any better forum. These soaps are lye-based so here goes...

I'm wondering where the smell in Papoutsanis and Kiss My Face olive oil soaps comes from. Both have a very strong scent, almost an "industrial" type of smell. Both are similar enough that I wonder if they come from the same Greek factory. The KMF soap has a bit more of a fruity and less chemical smell though. The ingredients of both are listed as saponified olive oil, water, salt (and also citric acid for the Papoutsanis).

So where does the strong odor come from? I'm wondering if it is a chemical smell left over from how the olive oil is processed or extracted. I'd love to hear others' thoughts on this.

I have no idea. In the US, I'm not sure that all ingredients must be listed. I just made a castile soap (EVOO, 5% castor). No scent that I can detect.
