Just an FYI in terms of the association of arsenic to rice.
This is often associated with the southern states here in the US as well as in river valleys/deltas of Califonia. Cotton was grown in many of these areas where rice now grows. The arsenic came from spraying the cotton against insects, probably boll weevil. I'm thinking lead arsenate was the insecticide du jour at the time. The amounts are, needless to say sublethal but just another example of how the actions of prior generations can impact our environment. For a very long time.
