I'm wanting to try my hand at CP cupcake soaps as the MP frosting with bath whip is a huge PITA and I don't have everything to make the meringue frosting.

Anyway, I keep reading that the frosting recipe should consist of mainly hard oils and most seem to use 50/50 coconut and palm. I do not want to use palm, and I really think that anything with 50% coconut will be very drying. I have cocoa, shea, tucumu, and mango butters. Could someone suggest a recipe that I could experiment with? I'm currently thinking of something along these lines:

10% cocoa butter
25% coconut
15% HO sunflower
50% olive

8% SF

Or do I really even need to come up with a special recipe just for the frosting?

Or perhaps someone could even offer a few tips to make the MP frosting a little easier to deal with? I'm currently using this recipe: http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/education/recipes/debbie-mays-best-soap-frosting.aspx

I make cupcake soaps and make my frosting with the same recipe I make the cupcakes with, I just wait until it's thick enough to pipe and stand up.

It takes a bit of practice but it's very doable. My recipe doesn't have a lot of hard oils.

Can't help you with the MP frosting though.

I've only had one batch of CP frosting get too hot to handle, it gelled in the pastry bag, was the strangest thing ever. I'm pretty sure it was the FO but could have been the soap demons visiting as they do once in awhile.

In CP I've also done it with my base recipe. I just wait till it firms up as well. Its not too difficult and its quite fun!

I've also piped hot process soap. Its not all that difficult as you would expect and can come out very fluid. That may be an alternative. When making HP frosting, I soap with full water and don't scrap the crock pot. You want only the fluid portion. I prefer HP so this is actually my go to.

Thank you guys. I would really hate to have to make a special recipe for just the tops and couldn't figure out why everyone was recommending one. I was really hoping I could use the same one! Thank you :D

Do you whip your "frosting" any? Or just pipe it as is?

I've done both (w/ HP)! Sorry, I love experimenting.

When I whipped the frosting, I added more liquid than I wanted so I stuck the soap in the freezer when it was done to harden it. That obviously wouldn't work for CP though! With HP whipped soap it would have to be very high in water content to not harden instantly when whipped. In that recipe I used goats milk instead of water. It was surprisingly hard after only a few weeks because the airy ness of the bar (guessing) caused the excess water to evaporate faster than expected (again, guess)

Just remember to wear heat resistant gloves when piping or if you have access to one of those canister type pipers, they work great.

Cool! Thanks guys. I may try this tomorrow. I wanted to do it today but since it was my daughter's birthday I decided to make real cupcakes instead of soap ones lol
