I bought a scale to start soap making. As I was making my first batch I realized it only went to three 10th place not the hundredth so I bought one one that says it went to the 100th place. As I was getting my water ready today I realized it doesn't exactly measure to thr 100th place. For example, I needed .48 in water, but it would only read .45 or .50. Do I need to purchase a different scale or is the difference small enough that it won't effect the process?

Hi CynCyn- no need to buy another scale. :) What I do is weigh up to the nearest 10th......so, instead of weighing out .48 oz of water, I would weigh out 5 ounces of water, which is so close that it's not an issue. I do that with all my ingredients except for lye, that is......with lye, I round down to the nearest 10th. For example, if I needed 4.8 oz of lye, I would weigh out 4.5 oz.
