I bought babassu oil from a seller on amazon, and then when i ran out i got som from wsp. The amazon one was a thicker, almost lotion texture (the only ingredient is babassu oil). The one i received from wsp is pure liquid.

Yes, i trust wsp rather than a random amazon purchase...

But when i did research on it, everything points to it being the texture of coconut oil, which was neither of these.

Are there different grades?
 
Yes, although I am not sure 'grades' is the right term, but different melt points does seem to be a thing. Perhaps like the two Coconut oils (76° CO 76 and 90° CO). I was not aware of this either until there were some discussions about this on the de-funk de pits thread and a couple of other threads.

Thank you for all of that! Grades was probably definitely the wrong term to use...i just didnt know what to call it.

The wsp babassu oil is very liquid. It even has a spout on the bottle. And (from memory) the description is that it is liquid, pale yellow.

My house thermostat is set to 68, so i know its not the temperature of the house lol.
 
I ordered babassu oil a couple of years ago from BB. If I remember right it came in a thin plastic type jug with a spout but I had to heat it up to pour. It was kind of like coconut oil. I just looked on their site real quick and looks like melting point 76?
 
I have a tub of babassu from New Directions Aromatics, that was packaged in a wide mouthed tub. It's typically a solid white oil, very much reminiscent of coconut oil though less fragrant. I have had to dig it out with a spoon in the past. I just checked: starting temp was ~74 F. Two 10 second bursts in the microwave and surface temp is ~77 F and if I stirred it, the whole thing would probably melt.

So based on this, my assumption is that babassu is like coconut: solid at most room temperatures with an average melting point of 76-77 F. And anyone that doesn't sell it in a wide mouth container probably won't receive my business...
