I reeeeeaaaaally want to make an amber soap- I've looked at FOs, but am not sure I want to get small sample bottles of it only to get burned- I want REAL amber. I've been trying to source amber resin instead, and am having a hard time finding anything reasonably priced. I found this youtube video of a woman making it, breaking off a chunk from a HUGE block of resin!

Anyone tried this before?

As a sidenote, it totally cracks me up that she picked The Gourd's version of "Gin and Juice" for the background music  I'd love to meet this lady!

*Edited to correct cover band- I really thought that this was a Phish cover ;)

It's pretty expensive stuff. Honestly if I ever got a hold of any, I wouldn't waste it in soap. Too many things could go wrong to make the soap unusable to chance something that expensive.
I'd use it in a solid perfume, instead.

But, I do remember a conversation about using amber resin that I had written some notes about, so I'll check them.

Here's my notes.
*When you melt it, you have to do it at low heat otherwise too high of heat will burn off the scent.
*Most of the soapers that used it preferred to dilute it in jojoba oil, I'm thinking because it has less scent than most oils.
*Most of them diluted in a 5 part oil to 1 part amber.
*Do not CPOP, otherwise too much heat could burn off the scent.
*Some of the women said that after a few months the amber in the their soap was undetectable

According to these ladies, there isn't an fo out there that even come close to real amber resin.
