Canola I have purchased at the grocery store in any form has a unique, peculiar odor. Not rancid, just odd. I can smell it even in those "spreadable butters" where it is only about 50% of the mixture. I smelled it at a restaurant in a dish on a salad bar, and verified it with the staff. I can smell canola oil through many covering odors. I do have an extremely sensitive nose.
