using the hand milling method (grating basic soap, melting and adding stuff) Norma Coney in 'The complete soapmaker' writes about adding fresh cucumber, lettuce, strawberries, apricots etc.

Does anyone make soaps like these, and can advise on how long these soaps might last? She doesn't mention anything about their shelf life.

She adds benzoin powder to most of these.

I do not hand mill my soaps but i do add produce in at trace. I always puree them. I have not had any spoilage at all. I do not add preservatives. I have read the book that you mentioned and I like it very much. All of her soaps are very beautiful. Good luck and don't forget to put up pics!

You were asking about shelf life. I ask no more than 2 years from my 'food' soaps without any preservatives. I am quite sure that you can extend this time with the proper additives.
