i have now made my own bars! the first ones i made of a combo of LARD, OO. fear too much lye. kinda too basic feeling for the skin. possibly good for cleaning up an oil spill with a nice lavendar/comet smell :)

failed attempt with 100% canola. that was a complete waste of time. maybe good for a some sort of salt scrub. comes out and doesn't really dry.

i will never use regular soap again. i washed off my shaving cream smell with this soap as i found it offending after using this bar. my favorite so far is a pacchouli scented soap made from pure lard. i added myrrh, jojoba, oatmeal, calendala flowers, trace amounts of sea salt, and sandlewood.

yesterday: (potentially some good soap)
7.2 oz olive oil
12 oz coconut
6 oz castor
4 oz lye
10 oz h2o
eyeballed:
sea salt
jojoba oil
oatmeal
jasmine (but the scent is long gone thanks to the basic quality of soap)
myrrh

the one a made today is:
11.4 oz olive oil
30.4 oz lard
7 oz coconut oil
4.9 oz castor oil
7.6 oz lye
22 oz h2o
chamomile
sandlewood (think too much)
oatmeal
calendala
cinammon
clove
used pauls salt/sugar technique, but accidentally added far too much (possibly more than double) just hope that it all hardens. thinking this might be a batch for acne :p

Um..... ok, I'm still trying to recover from seeing your hand mixer tied up....

but did you run your recipe through a lye calculator.....

because forgive me if i'm wrong but this from your oils used your water and lye are off a great deal.

this is what i got.....

Castor Oil 6.00 ounces - 6.7 %
Coconut Oil 12.00 ounces - 13.3 %
Olive Oil 72.00 ounces - 80.0 %
Lye: 11.93 ounces
Water: 36.00 ounces

Please use safety when making soap, and always use a lye calculator.....

LOL

now that is a horse of a different color........

but the hanging hand mixer sure is unique

is that a still for your essentials??? i totally want one!! i got theil condenser and flask, but no setup like yours. totally not into my own essentials yet, but more than ready to learn. i need a sep. funnel right??

peace.

I guess a seperatory funnel is what they use for oils. However this one is set up for nitric acid.

The way I understand it for oils, you need a chamber "to hold the herbs" between the boiling flask & condenser and the oils collected in a seperatory funnel on the end of the condenser.
