Has anyone ever tried this? I'm not really interested in what you "think" will result from it, but what it really produces (sorry, I'm not dissing your experience, just have been surprised by some oils that should haven't acted as they did). Have you tried this and if so, what were your results?

The soaps that I used canola in are the only ones to develop DOS, so you couldn't pay me to use 100% of it at this point. I'm sure I could trouble shoot it down to specific things but it's just not worth it to me.
I've never tried Soy though, so that could be interesting
I think that if I'd had good experiences with it in blends I'd be willing to up the %. You never know unless you try.

I've done a 100% canola, it got bad DOS within 4 weeks, greasy and stinky. Never done a 100% soy but I did do a 100% crisco and it too developed DOS. I've been meaning to try corn oil.

RogueRose, there are some awesome blog posts about single oils experiment.

On each blog tthere is usually a follow-up after some time on these experiments to check for DOS and soap performance in time, so it is best to lose a night and browse through it like a madman (at least that is what I did in the past) :)

I did a 100% of soy and it took a LONG time to reach trace. it seemed to keep seperating the oil back out, around the edges of the bowl/container, as soon as I stopped mixing. It makes a really nice light cream/white color though!

I did 100% NaOH and 50/50 Na/KOH.
I also did a 80% Soy 20% Coconut mix and that was slow to reach trace as well, but looks nice and white as well.

I'll probably do canola & corn and a few others in a few days.

I'll keep updated and let you know how it turns out.

I really hope I dont get DOS as I used a brand new bottle or oil. I know that doesn't garuntee anything, but we'll see.

Good to know.I have yet to make any soap with DOS , and am aiming to avoid it if I can.

Yes, I made a soap with crisco as my first soap. It was awful. Smelled great at first and within 3 months, kept in a dry closet at no more than 78 degrees, I had horrible horrible DOS (100% orange soap). And of course, since it was my first bar, I had tried to use it for things like making laundry detergent. So my clothing actually ended up smelling putrid. I would not recommend 100% high linoleic or linolenic oils.

DOS is dependent on the oil mix but, also how it is stored. A bar stored in a hot and humid environment or a bar stored on metal will develop DOS much more likely/rapidly than a bar stored in a dry/cool place.

I make a Canolive soap which is not my recipe which contains 40% olive 40 % canola, coconut, palm and glycerin. I received this bar in a swap and I used it off and on for a year to test it. It never acquired dos, yet I have had lard soaps develop dos. To note the bar was kept in a dish over the sink for the year where there is moisture from washing dishes. There is more to dos than just oils in my opinion. Corn and Soy I have had develop dos and neither, in my opinion, make nice feeling soap. Here is a great link for some single oil soap tests http://alchemyandashes.blogspot.com/2013/03/single-oil-soap-experiment-phase-one.html
