What soapy thing have you done today?

Washed last night's soap dishes, and found myself really loving the F.O. I used..."Wild Rose" by Brambleberry. Wasn't too sure last night, but it mellowed quite a bit as the soap set up. It was also my first time using a F.O. that accelerated, which I was prepared for, but it wasn't too bad. I...

Looking for newbie recipes (with specifics)

I understand your trepidation. But you have to be willing to experiment in this hobby, and the best way to do that is to jump in. Forget gifting for a while. You need to give yourself time to experiment and "play," and that means managing your expectations and not aiming right off the bat for...

FYI, BCN does not answer Emails...

Oh, that's irritating. I'm still new enough at this that I haven't yet had too many experiences like that when I buy my soap stuff, but I'd commonly have issues ordering things for another hobby. Nothing like spending 30 bucks on shipping for a few tiny orchid seedlings from the West Coast only...

    Name this Seed Pod

Just saw this. That's an okra seedpod, split along the seams of the pod. Great for fall decorations. :)

what are you doing right now ?

Watching a kid movie with my toddlers while hoping that the sound of a big truck coming down my street that I hear is the UPS guy with my most recent Brambleberry order! A girl can dream, right? LOL

So I did something crazy yesterday..

Your soap is beautiful and so creative. Very well done. And I'm sorry for your family's heartbreaking loss. I've always thought it unfair that in the English language we have words for children who lose parents (orphans) and spouses who lose their partners (widows/widowers) but there are no...

    Post your happy

Got started on getting my living room painted. What a difference a fresh, cheerful paint color makes! Also I'm back to the forum after a hiatus, mostly lurking as usual, but I'm also making soap and enjoying reading about everyone else's projects. I love this place. :)

    Soft Oils and Skin Conditioning

Thanks! I tried some rice bran oil in a recent recipe...waiting for it to cure to check it out. The avocado oil sounds intriguing. And, yep, I am definitely surprised that I couldn't tell a difference with the shea, but then it's only been one batch so far that I have used it in (all the rest...

    Soft Oils and Skin Conditioning

Hi everyone, First, I want to thank anyone reading this who chimed in on my recent thread about water discounts--I have been doing so much reading lately about this important aspect of soapmaking, and it's been pretty exciting to learn something new. I am still a relative newbie, and I...

    BB: $25 off shipping!

Just chiming in to again say "Thank you" to Zany & Osso for posting this. I just used the coupon code BBSAVE* and it worked! Am planning on teaching myself how to make bath bombs this holiday season and so I had to spend more money on additional supplies. Every bit helps. :)

Will plastic chemicals leach into my soaps?

To piggyback off of this post in what I hope is a relevant way, does anyone know if PP (#5 plastic) will leach anything into fragrance oils over time? I have a couple fragrances from Nurture that were packaged in this, and I swear they seemed to have a somewhat plasticky aroma when I got them...

    Sparkling Snowflake

That's lovely! Super nice swirls, too.

    Water Discounts. Handholding needed!

Yes, thanks. I understood that to be the case several minutes after I posted, which was why I added what I did at the end when I edited my post. Thanks. Yes, I'll definitely play with this feature. Thank you so very much. I definitely mistated what cmzaha had proposed--trying to dissolve...

    Water Discounts. Handholding needed!

Wow, thank you ALL so much for the input. I am going to read back through everything on this thread. Cmzaha--I am sure any confusion is my fault; I probably stated things a bit oddly, haha. I am certain the info on her site is accurate. Thanks for your advice about the lye solution...

    Water Discounts. Handholding needed!

Hi there, I could use a little help as I begin to experiment with water discounts. Please be patient with me, as anything involving math makes me break out in hives. ;) Being new to using Titanium dioxide, I read as much as I could on here and elsewhere about properly dispersing this...

    Bubbles? Re-melt?

Bumping this for you in the hope that others respond. I am no expert, but I have done my share of rebatches. All I can say is that, in my opinion, rebatching is a fair amount of work and bother, and the resulting soap is usually LESS visually appealing (if that matters to you) than the...

    Merlot Wine Soap

That looks awesome! Just saw your post as I was sipping on a glass of merlot, funnily enough! LOL

    Advice Regarding Embeds

Yeah, I was thinking that it would not be a good idea to use it in a full batch. But I do have one or two iffy F.O. samples to use up, and had thought about trying it in a very small batch--kill two birds with one stone, there. Probably your idea is the safest course of action, though! Thank you! :)

    Advice Regarding Embeds

Hello, I am planning on making my first soap with embeds tonight, and could use your input! The embeds are already made. I have a silicone heart mold that makes a long "log" of heart shaped soap...and I've used this mold twice now; so, I have two such heart "logs" ready to be used. One...

    Butterfly swirl soap

What a fascinating thread--thanks for posting pics! I like the first one, even if it may not have been what you were expecting. The colors are very nice. I'm not very experienced with using TD, but I'd really like to see the glycerin rivers in one of my next batches--they give such a very neat...
