Canadian Association of Professional Soap & Cosmetic Crafters

Will there be more development on this? At the moment it looks a bit unprofessional.

Have you ever regretted soaping a fragrance?

This subject came to mind earlier today but I seem to recall a Peaches N Cream from the past, it was absolutely horrid. I must have sold a log of it but I am positive I threw the rest of the FO out :D I had a hemp scent once but never had a chance to soap it. I should try that one again.

Where does everyone buy their oils?

I used Soaper's Choice while living in Illinois and I would highly recommend them. Not sure if there are better deals but they had fantastic service and I could pick them up myself.

Why did my soap still get a partial gel?

Use a thermometer and soap at cooler temperatures - the soap might have gelled before it got a chance to get cold

    Shelf life of lye?

I have some Red Devil Lye containers from 2003 still and I only use it as drain opener because it clobbed into little balls, it works fine but I wouldn't use it for soap if it's like this. I keep my lids tight and make sure 100% that my lye in a cool and dry place now.

    Colourant tips

I haven't used the oil method but I have seen some soapmaker's videos - it looks like they only use a very small amount maybe two tablespoons at most, usually around one tablespoon. Don't quote me on that but it might give you a starting point.

    lebermuth

I have a fragrance oil from them that is about 10 years as well, it has lasted a long time and is still as good as the day I got it. I got it at a Soapmakers Conference. It's in a 16oz bottle. I still have it because while high quality, I do not like scents of this type (it's not oatmeal milk...

What's your favourite oil in soap making? Why?

Hemp Oil, it gives a nice moisturizing quality in my soap. I use a bit of shea and cocoa butter as well, which makes for a very luxurious soap.

    Funding Your Business

My only suggestion is to make sure you have a plan for how you will spend the funds and be as transparent as possible, to a certain extent. It seems to make people have more trust in you. Also have good perks, a creative and quality product, and don't half ass your proposals at all. Use as...

    Hemp soap

I use hemp oil around 8% as well. I typically use Olive Oil around 50% in my recipes and I would never be able to afford to soap with hemp like that!

    Thin Black Lines

Wow those are some really cute ideas that people have thought of :D I never would have guessed!

    Thin Black Lines

Does anyone have any input on what creates those thin black lines that I see in soaps? Is it intentional or is it just a reaction among ingredients? I have included an image (it is not mine but I cannot find the original source either)

Supply Hunting: Glow In The Dark (wasn't sure of forum)

So far I have rounded up the following: Nite Glow Powder Glow In The Dark Powder I wish I could remember the original source, but that information is unfortunately so far gone from moving many times throughout the years.

Supply Hunting: Glow In The Dark (wasn't sure of forum)

While I would still appreciate your own referrals, I have found a couple sources. Just took awhile to hit the right google search string :D Thanks!

Supply Hunting: Glow In The Dark (wasn't sure of forum)

If you could move this to the appropriate forum if this isn't proper, that would be appreciated. Years ago I purchased some glow in the dark additive for melt and pour soapmaking at a soapers conference. The vendor has long escaped me and I am looking for more of this additive. I am not...

    Whats so good about castille?

I think the lather is the castille blessing. It is silky and dense with softening oils from my own personal batches. This soap doesn't leave you feeling oily but it doesn't feel like the skin has been stripped at all either. It's like a light moisturizer even. It does take a long time to...

I have a thousand dollars to spend tell a newbie how to spend it!

If this is going to be something that you take the time to perfect and make lots of, or at least multiple times I would say invest in a wooden mold with a silicone liner. I would recommend a slab mold to begin with but log molds are nice too. If you're planning on trying certain designs with...
