Why not try a small batch for personal use to see if you like it before you commit to the big one?
If it were me, I'd like to try to make them myself :)
I think she is very brave for doing that. There is nothing glamorous about a mastectomy. Even with reconstructive surgery her "new" breasts won't be like normal natural breasts.
Given her family history and the results of the gene testing I don't think her decision was jumping the gun at all...
We might have old stock - my supplier is in Australia and I have noticed that we don't have any of the new scents or as big a range as is available from the Brambleberry site.
I think I might have to try it and see how it goes while I can still get my hands on it.
The only thing that I can think of is that she likes to experiment and ends up with loads of soap, which she then sells.
I can totally see how that can happen.... I'd like to make at least a batch a week, but soon we would be wading through piles of soap bars! There's only so much you can...
Sounds yummy, but then I thought that Sweet Meyer Lemon did too and that smelled kind of detergent-esque to me.
I'll be using it in M&P.
Also, does the BB Violet smell anything like the Bathos bubble bar that Lush used to do? I really miss it and I'd like to have a shot at making a substitute...
Hey Lotus! I know you from Etsy! (I go by dollybirdblythe there). Nice looking soap. You are brave for trying the pureed avocado. Keep us posted as to how it turns out. :)
I would think that it might be difficult/time consuming to separate the fat from the cooked meat juices. I think you would have to cook an awful lot of ground beef to get enough to soap with.
I bought some tallow used for frying but haven't yet made any soap with it yet. It was pretty cheap -...
Maybe it has something to do with not having borax in the mix? The recipe I used had washing soda, grated soap and oxy-bleach granules in it. No EO or anything like that.
The smell was the same horrible smell that you get if you forget your washing and leave it in the machine too long, only...
What do you suggest for hardness though? If not palm oil, sustainable or otherwise, the only alternatives that I am aware of are lard and tallow (which also have ethical drawbacks for many) - if you want to avoid a using high percentage of coconut oil.
What do you like to soap with?
I'd buy an accurate digital scale, some nice big stainless steel pots and a stick mixer plus good goggles, a lab coat (I am a chicken about getting splashed and wear hubbies old discarded shirts over my clothes. I would love a lab coat for soaping) and gloves.
Then I would watch a heap of...
I just can't imagine not using soap/showergel or shampoo....
I live in a hot and humid climate. People get REALLY stinky here. So bad that I often find myself moving away from people in stores or holding my breath until I'm a safe distance away. I just don't think that I would feel clean...
I bought some melt and pour to play with too - I'm just waiting for it to arrive!
I bought a silicon bar mold tray, some colours, a mica and about 4 fragrances. Can't wait! You will have to be sure to put up some pics of your soap making exploits :)
