What soapy thing have you done today?

Made a 5 lb batch of soap and then played with my FO shipment from BB (bought a few from their FO sale). I love opening up new FO and smelling them for the first time. Almost as exciting as getting to cut soap after waiting patiently to see how your swirls came out........

    Using 5% beeswax in recipe

My problem may have been that I didn't use it as a substitute for CO. In both batches that I made with it the bars didn't feel very creamy and a little waxy. Great bubbles but didn't last very long in the shower. Since I still have some PKO left I'll have to try a batch using it as a sub and...

    Addicted to Planing my Soaps

I'm sorry for such a late response. What I do for curls is use my planer that makes deeper cuts. I plane a very fresh bar of soap. Appox 1 week old so that its still very soft. Plane it slowly while pressing quite hard which helps the soap to curl up. Watch the fingers though. Don't let...

I am making Soap this weekend!

I have to make 10 lbs of soap for an order this weekend but I plan on squeezing in a fun batch. Trying to decide between avocado or maybe one with embeds. I've had a few requests for pumpkin and a facial bar so maybe work on that. Oh, decisions, decisions LOL As long as it's soap it's all good ;)

    Using 5% beeswax in recipe

Not sure if you made this soap already but had to chime in here. You may find that 18% Pko is quite high. If I use Pko I typically stick with 5% or less. A high percentage can make your soap feel 'waxy' and the bar will be hard but it won't last long in the shower. If you made it already let...

    Soap Slab or Loaf/Log Cutter

Sorry I don't have any ideas about a wire cutter. I just wanted to say that I hope you don't end up as disappointed as I am with Silvermoon. It took double the amount of time to receive my order with promise after promise. Each time the shipment never left the day she promised. Her silicone...

Mild eczema bar and Citrus salt.. rainy weekend soaping!

That's a great idea! Good way to get swirls in your salt bars before they harden up.

My wine soap is a dud

I recently made wine soap and mine creates lots of foamy small bubbles. I doubt yours doesn't lather because of the wine since the sugar content should boast bubbles. I've read that some colorants can reduce them but also it could be your recipe. Have you made similar soap (minus the wine)...

Soap whipped almond oil and pearl powder

Pretty! How does the pearl powder make your soap feel? I use it in a face wash so I'm curious how it is for you in soap.

Can you help me understand this recipe?

MzMolly congrats on your first own recipe!!!! I have *cough* mature skin and find that even a lower amount of MB (5-10%) is good. Softens my skin without the waxy feeling. The high OO and RBO is nice too but you'll need to wait it out the full 5-6 weeks to judge if you're going to fall in...

    Swirl Critique, Please

I don't get these bumps often but when I do it is sooo frustrating. I've read the blame put on so many different things like using a wire cutter, palm oil, improper stick blending, melting butters improperly, etc. but have never been able to rule out or find the culprit when it does happen to...

Operating from a single base recipe.

After making 2 bastille soaps (both hp) I did a lot of research on oil/butter properties and after a little tweeking I've settled on a base recipe. Only the additives are changed based on what I want the soap to be used for and who it is for (dry or oily skin, hand soap versus body or face...

    Do you premix your colours?

I've pre-mixed all of my oil soluble colorants in olive oil that I keep in the fridge. That way they are handy and already saturated so no streaks, etc. I mixed them concentrated (1 tablespoon per ounce of oil) and store them in small 4 oz squeeze bottles. Enough for several batches of soap...

    Burgundy Rose

Obsidian, looks like your soap will turn out nice. Can't wait to see cut pics. Did you boil your wine first to boil off the alcohol then freeze it in cubes? I've read about the volcano potential with wine but I heard removing the alcohol and using it frozen reduces the chances.

    Watermelon sugar scrub cubes

Cute! How well do yours hold up while using them?

    One more with embeds...;-)

I love the look of the balls for embeds or top of my soap but I hate making them. Yours come out nice and even (unlike mine). I wish I could find a small enough scoop that I could use on very soft soap to make them more uniform.

    Some Seasonal Soaps...

Love them all but the Pumpkin Spice is my favorite. Love how your darker swirls came up the side.

    Mmm Watermelon

Too cute! How long did you make the logs? The length of your mold?
