    Bloggers

For those of you with a business, this is for you! I have worked with a few bloggers - reviews and giveaways. I have turned a few down - like the ones who can't spell and are obviously looking for freebies. Recently I have gotten interest from a large blogger, but my concern is it seems all...

    Dental soap

I have been contemplating tooth soap.... this has made me start thinking about it again!

    Beer and Lye weirdness

I don't cook my beer. I open it and leave it on the counter for a day or two, then freeze it in ice cube trays. I then add my lye slowly and stir constantly. I have never had an issue with my lye dissolving or my beer melting doing it this way.

Do you drop a ton of E while soaping?

I do mix in my videos. For some reason I enjoy watching this part. I figure people can fast forward. A lot of my customers watch my videos and they don't know about the mixing process :) It's also good for me to see. Sometimes I catch myself really over-mixing :)

    Getting Soap to Gel Properly

I am not too far south of you, and having the same issue. I have been putting my soaps in the oven, without turning it on at all. That has been working for me :) It isn't CPOP, but kind of insulating the soap like a box and towels would. At least that has been my experience.

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

Since my husband is a chemist, we can agree to disagree. I am horribly allergic to Ivory, so don't use it. If I was allergic to handmade soap, I wouldn't use it. Most commercial bars don't claim to be soap because they are not. Dove contains an ingredient which contains formaldehyde...

    Cream & Sugar

I have been soaping for quite some time, but have been thinking about adding cream to my soap. I have heard that it adds a creaminess to your soaps. What I am trying to figure out, is how much do you typically add? I know I need to replace water with it, (I plan to add at trace). Also, does...

    Temprature Juggling ??

I never take temps. I mix lye the night before, or put it in front of a low fan. I melt my oils right before I use them, and if I am concerned about temp, I just feel the bowl. I tried taking temps once - too stressful! I did do the thermal soaping method too, but honestly room temp is...

Do you drop a ton of E while soaping?

LOL I am hoping I don't say Ummmm every other word.... But I too can't stand the music. I was watching one the other day that had horrible, ear piercing Christmas music. Just too much. I mute them if I can even get through them. I really like listening to people while they soap. :)

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

You will notice a HUGE difference with handmade soap. First, Dove and Ivory aren't soaps. They are detergent! Google the ingredients. You'd be shocked. I did a blog post on this very topic. My daughter has SEVERE eczema. And switching to handmade soap has cured it. Among many other...

    Coffee Soap Question

I grind my own beans. I use dark espresso, and grind them extra fine. I have used ground coffee, and look for the darkest I can get. Espresso is usually a fine grind so should work just fine. You don't have to soak it first.

    Urgent care... Wear goggles!

Yikes - I am so sorry! Good reminder for me. I only wear my goggles when mixing lye - and even then I don't always. They fog and drive me crazy. BUT this makes me want to deal with it! Hope you feel better in the morning! Great thing about eyes is they heal really fast. They are the...

    Major disaster!!!

I haven't read all the posts, but I put my molds in my oven with my oven off. No heat at all. Sometimes it works too well and I get glycerin rivers, so I don't leave it in there too long. I gel all of my soaps.

Newbie--Question about when to cut soap

Ideally, I cut after 2 days. HOWEVER, I am not patient AT ALL, and usually cut in a day :) I just cut 2 loaves that were still a little soft on the sides. Not a huge deal since I plane them, but I had a 3rd loaf that was just too soft to un-mold. If my soap is sticky, I usually wait to cut...

Has anyone seen this CP video on Youtube?

This was the first soaping video I watched on Youtube! And helped me get over my fear of soaping. I actually used her recipe for my first soap batch. It wasn't pretty, but it is soap! :) The process she uses is called Thermal soaping. I used to use it all the time, but prefer to soap at...

New basket for ED red mold?

I just got an email about these. Interesting idea. I actually sold my Red molds - they were coloring my soaps. But I did like them other than that.

    What's Your Worse Soap Disaster?

I have 2 :) I was soaping, and had just mixed red pigment into a large bowl of soap batter. And left my stick blender standing in it, and knocked it over. It spilled behind my soap table, all over my window and wooden blinds, down the wall, and into the carpet. Thankfully my soap table hides...
