    False Trace

Very interested to hear what others think. I have several designs where I start separating into colours and pouring when the mixture is just barely emulsified, mixing with a whisk, have not had any problems doing this as yet, but there is always a first :-)

Soapers be aware of issues with pyrex

I'm another that wont use pyrex, found out long ago it's not as safe as they would have you believe. Took my casserole dish out of the oven, put it on the kitchen sink, heard the crack, sure enough picked it up in 3 pieces. Will never buy another

    Major disaster!!!

For soap with melt and pour embeds I would choose the fridge/freezer, the soap gets hot enough to melt these during gel, as you have seen. I learned the hard way too

    About Lotion Bases

new12soap: This is not for me I make my own lotion and have no intentions of selling. A friend does this to sell and it has me confused how adding things after the lotion is already made with no checking of the formula or preservative is safe. Robert: Thank you for explaining this, what has me...

    About Lotion Bases

Thank you for the answers to my questions, they help a little but I'm just thinking 1. Wouldn't you need to heat the lotion base to add any extra oils and wouldn't heating this spoil the preservative? 2. What about the heat and hold thingy, to make sure there are no nasty things in water based...

    About Lotion Bases

Thank you for confirming what I thought was right. Now I have to try convince my friend this is not a good idea to sell what I call contaminated lotion:shock:

    About Lotion Bases

I only make lotion for myself, have no interest in selling. A friend buys lotion bases from a reputable company here in Australia. My understanding of lotion bases is you add fragrance mix well and package (taking care with handling and all other requirements of cleanliness) that the...

Soap stable mica would solve the problem. The one's in the link below are, from all I have heard, as good as the pop mica's were. http://www.nurturesoapsupplies.com/soap-colorants/

    Wooden mold for ED mold

You can go to the hardware and get 2 pieces of wood, as tall as the mold is deep, and about 5cm longer than your mold, drill holes in each end of both pieces and put a screw thingy through and secure with a bolt. Mind you, it will need something underneath if you are going to move it around:)

    About trace

I soap both ways 1. Pouring at the barely emulsified stage so I'm able to have all the colours swirl together. 2. At what I call trace, where it is pudding thickness so I can have the colours stay where I put them. The end result is always the same, I wrap them to gel, un-mold and cut 10 to 12...
