    Review "the CandleMakers Store?"

Does anyone have experience with the Candlemakers Store, in Ohio? They appear to be a big wholesale, manufacturer of fragrances and candle / soap ingredients. They mostly focus on candlemaking but say that all their fragrance oils are skin safe, safe to use in HP and CP and MP soaps, as well as...

    Getting Started

This is an intriguing thread for me, cause we are in the process of moving from a homeschool/hobby/locals business to putting investment into growing a large circle of steady customers. (took 5 years to get here...) *My* idea for your situation would be: If the rent for the farmer's market...

    Packaging Question - Soap Sweat

The soaps don't really get sweaty, that I notice, when stored in heavy paper bags or boxes. If they are sweaty, say before a summer event, I may wipe them off with paper-towel or a cloth (not a linty one) or sit them in front of a fan! before wrapping them up in a label. I have not tried any...

Patchouli plus ..? (for patchouli haters)

Thanks for the info, and for the good laugh! I was a wanna-be hippy a long time ago (but I never liked patchouli.;)

Patchouli plus ..? (for patchouli haters)

This may already have been discussed, but there is sooo much good information here and I don't have time to search through it all. My Q: I have some patchouli from my last order - that I intended to use cause a customer told me she loved it with Lavender. Ugh. I discovered I cannot stand the...

    Summertime: bee-sting Soap ?

Thanks all, for the input! It's nice to know that others hear the same thing from customers. We do make a batch of just plain lard-n-lye soap once in awhile, just to have on hand for those who want,"Just a bar of old LYE soap ." Lately, we had a customer refuse even our plain bars cause they...

    Summertime: bee-sting Soap ?

Not sure if this is the right category for my Q. but maybe some of you that have studied the chemistry of soap can help here. I have older customers who swear that the 'lye' in a plain, granny-type soap is their secret weapon against bee stings and other insect bites. They carry a bar of granny...

    scarborough fair

That is beautiful!! I have been thinking of that same theme, Scarborough Fair but hadn't come up with a definite plan. These are lovely soaps. I would like to know, also, how that scent combination works for you over time/curing.

    Packaging Question - Soap Sweat

Yes, in humid weather, the soap will sweat. As a salt, it attracts moisture from the air. Here in Indiana, our summer weather is very humid, so this has been a challenge for me, too. We have been making and selling our soap for a few years (more this past year) and have tried the same things you...

    Question about Salt Bars...

What n why salt bars? I have been tooooo busy to spend much time on the forum for a few months. Now, here I am. Saw this thread and I ask .... what is a 'salt bar', or ... why does one make soap with added salt? Studying my chemistry, the soap itself is technically a 'salt' (the product of a...

To keep lavender on top of soap purple...

Sprinkled my soaps with dried mint April 12 . . . Well . . . I still don't have photos, but I can share from my experiment. (I've been super busy this spring, and will continue to be.) The soaps are a lovely pale green color from some green clay and a bit of green oxide. The dried mint...

    My Locale Soap Challenge

Very pretty. I like that look. It reminds me of my window-shopping for new kitchen counters, ya know, those lovely 'cut-stone' kind of countertops. Are these scented ?

To keep lavender on top of soap purple...

Yes, I'll post pics as soon as I get some lessons (or lots more study of the user's manual) under my belt for our digital camera. Normally, I have my hubby or one of our electronic-talented children do any photography. BUt I need to learn to do this for myself!

    Icky Oooo

Aloe snot ... hahah! We find that it cleans up easily becuase it contains no oil or protein. And it really is a very gentle moisturizer or antiseptic just fresh from the leaf. I don't really expect any 'healing properties' to survive the CP process and tell people that. But it does add niceties...

To keep lavender on top of soap purple...

OK, I'm ready for experiment #1. Prepping to do a batch of Ecualyptus-Mint Cp soap. After the gel (or maybe even, out of the mold?) I will finish it with a fine sprinkle of rubbed, dried mint leaves on top, Spayed ie: soaked with 51% isopropyl alcohol (could not find any 90% shopping...

    Still having partial gel problems

You can find many suppliers of slab or individual molds, pick your choice of size and shape. The 9-bar mold should not be too large a batch to prevent gel. So, it sounds to me like you are doing everything right so far. I figured out to set my GM soap (in small or individual molds) on a metal...

To keep lavender on top of soap purple...

Oops, forgive me Cosmo, for not giving credit where it belongs. I am not being a very careful reader; for some reason I thought Mommysoaper originally shared this tip. So, to you Cosmo, thank *you* for sharing this tip. :)

To keep lavender on top of soap purple...

Holding color in Herbs ? Mommysoaper ... or anyone else with experience.... Does the 'sprinkle herbs on after gel and spray liberally with alcohol' work for other herbs to keep their color? Would it help dried mint stay green on top of a soap? Or, sage remain cool-gray? Any other herbs...

    Labels with Drug Claims

I want to say Thank You, to everyone for this discussion so far. It is very, very helpful. I know Christinak, it all sounds weird. According to the FDA, we cannot just be simple and say what the soap is IF the customer is going to buy with preconceived notions about some item's healing or...

    Labels with Drug Claims

Sigh. OK, so for awhile I was calling our pine tar soap, 'Grampa's Workday Soap' but then we decided to simplify things and changed to just Pine Tar Soap. Do you think the original title is better? I read that aloe vera helps make a soap whiter, and mild and gentle. We also grow our own Aloe...
