    Honey in lip balms

As Seven said, honey is fine in lip balms if you add an emulsifier. I have a honey balm made 6 months ago still going strong.... Good luck

    Cream of Tartar Substitute?

You can use citric acid instead of cream of tartar, but the bars won't be quite as malleable when shaping them. Good luck with your bars.

    These are lovely. Well done.

    Sugar Scrubs and preservatives.

Use 0.8% which in your 8 ounce recipe is 1.8 grams or 37 ish drops. I would definitely recommend you get scales that measure at .1 gm increment as this preservative has a maximum amount allowed in products. Also add it in below 100oF/40oC. The makingcosmetics.com site has a fact sheet, MSDS...

    Deoderant base/EO question

Gotta love making your first product. :) it's addictive eh? Like the others have said, it's likely the baking soda as it causes rashes for lots of people. I use a recipe with zinc oxide in it which works very well and I find is more effective for me than clay or other substitutions. It is...

    Help me make this recipe!

I looked into this a bit more as silly me was just quoting others when saying that honeysuckle contains parabens. Reminder to self to always do more research... Anyways, Japanese honeysuckle is sold as a preservative under the name of Plantservative...

    Help me make this recipe!

Japanese Honeysuckle is a source of parabens, so there's some preservative action there. Can't see an emulsifier though, so no idea how it's staying together.

Please help me preserve this new product

Thanks for the help. I might do some testing with the ideas I have. I'll talk to my friendly local microbiologist who helps me with such things. I'm tempted to go down the LOUD LABEL option as this product is popular with people who want all 'natural' products.

Please help me preserve this new product

Ok, a bit of back story as this is a bit different. My face is v. sensitive to cleansers and the only thing I'm happy with is water and occasionally an oats wash, literally smearing my face with oats. As you can imagine, this is rather messy, so I started putting the oats in empty paper tea...

How do you make lip balm

Ok Eve. I teach making beauty products for tweens/teens so I can help. With a lip balm you want to have a mixture of different types of oils and waxes to soften the lips and help prevent the lips from drying out. Try grabbing some vegetable/olive oil from the kitchen and put a little bit some...

Body butter recipe for stretch marks

I'm not sure if balms/body butter really help with stretch marks, but I loved pampering my pregnant belly anyway with oils and butters. It was a nice ritual and a whipped butter made with the shea as you mentioned would be lovely :-D

How do I make a Gel?

LOL, I've made this as slime for kids in a classroom, but never thought about it as a gel for the body. You are right, it's definitely an expedient solution and possibly too thick. I think the OP will be able to find some safe alternatives via Susan's (Swift Crafty Monkey) blog

How do you make lip balm

Hi Evelovesowls, welcome. What aspect are you confused about? Have you tried any recipes yet? What ingredients do you have available? Do you have any vegetable oils or beeswax? Lip balm is a great way to launch into making bath and body products as you don't need many ingredients. You can make...

Curl Definer idea-inspired by flax seed gel

So I'm new to hair products and was inspired by Grayceworks flax seed gel (thanks) to make something to define the waves in my low porous type 2b waves. I made the following, it works really well and am offering the recipe to you all if you are interested in making it or can help me improve it...

    totally confused

I would recommend doing some experimental playing. To make a great bath fizzie start with with the basic chemical reaction. That is an acid + baking soda releases carbon dioxide which makes the fizz. Get some citric acid and baking soda, mix and throw in wate. Try different ratios of acid to...

    Hi from Christchurch, New Zealand

Hi, I'm so glad to find this place. I've just had a bad experience on another forum. I'm relatively new to soap and body product making but I feel like I've come home. A bit about me. Once upon a time, I got a biochem degree but ran away mid PhD to join a traveling circus run by a science...
