    Weird color fail

I mixed 50/50 Black Raspberry Vanilla and Very Vanilla FOs from Candlescience at 1 oz PPO. The plan was to make dark pink and dark purple swirls. I used Red #33 for one part, and Blue #1 + a little activated charcoal for the other. These are usually predictable colors for me, but for some...

    Observations from vacation

I just got back from vacation on the Oregon coast, over the course of which I encountered probably 20 different displays of CP soap for sale in various gift shops, boutiques, specialty groceries and farmer's markets. There were wide variations in packaging, all the way from single color cigar...

Weird result - maybe it's the FO?

I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the FO forum. But anyway, I just did a batch which is behaving rather oddly. It is my standard "tried and true" recipe, which is usually hard enough to cut and handle well before 24 hours. This batch was exactly the same, except I tried 0.5 oz PPO of...

What would you do with this?

Well, this one went wrong from the start. It was going to be a pencil line but it riced on me and seized up in about 30 seconds after emulsifying. I stirred in the colors anyway and glopped it into the mold, but it looks like cottage cheese. As soap it's fine, the scraps lather nicely and it...

    Two more batches this week

I thought I might as well post my two latest. Both are my standard recipe of coconut, pomace, lard, avocado and castor. The bars on the right are scented with Pear FO. Funny thing, I had decided to call them "Pear Tree" and the swirl actually came out looking kind of like a tree :)...

    Scraps

I've been keeping all my soap scraps and trimmings and throwing them in a bag. When the bag gets full I add a little water, melt it down and squish it into a flat pancake. It makes fun little soaps for use around the house. Can you tell I hate to waste anything? And, I think they...

My first try at doing a pencil line

Lavender Vanilla FO with cocoa powder for the line, and some ground oats both mixed in and sprinkled on top. First time using this FO, too, and I'm liking it quite a bit. I got some small dye spots in the lavender part; I thought it was well-mixed but not well enough, apparently.

Please talk me out of this :)

I'm being severely tempted to spend money I shouldn't spend on this sample FO pack from Scent Works.

    First attempt at CPOP

My last two batches did not gel at all in spite of being insulated...it is just too cold right now. So for this batch I tried CPOP for the first time. 170°F for about half an hour and then oven off for another 6 hrs or so. I got a nice full gel and the bars were ready to cut in about 16 hours...

    Here are some of mine

I've been dabbling in soap making for about six months now. I thought I would post some pics of what I have come up with so far. This one is very simple, made with rendered beef tallow.

    Does sodium lactate inhibit gel?

Hi all, first post except for saying hi in the intro forum. I have been soaping about six months. I prefer to try for a full gel and have not usually had much trouble with getting there (the mold I made is pretty well-insulated). However the last two batches I made did not gel at all, and the...

    Greetings

Hello, I am a guy nearer 60 than 50, who has been dabbling in CP soapmaking for the last 6 months or so. It started when my wife liked some hand-crafted soap we got at a farmer’s market. I decided to try making some myself, an idea which then morphed into “let’s give homemade soap for our...
