Newbie- how do I stop my soy wax candles from looking like this?

I've never worked with coconut wax, and I hate soy wax, so I'm not much help. I tried working with soy but it is so finicky and not all FO's no matter how much of a load you put in just do not work, - as noted above, the end result is not always pretty, it doesn't take color well, and a myriad...

Newbie- how do I stop my soy wax candles from looking like this?

This is how soy reacts. You can try heating the top with a heat gun, but after the first time burning, that wierd bumply look will be back. Not worth the effort of trying to stop or prevent it as it will come back. Although all of this is good advice, it will only work in the short term for...

    Pillar candles

NOT a dummy!! Candlemaking has a HUGE learning curve. Beeswax is a very hard wax and I don't think a cotton wick on a diameter anything larger than an inch will get hot enough to burn right. You might need something that burns hotter than that. HTP wicks are great for beeswax that are larger...

Candle help - not throwing scent?

I find that soy wax has a hard time with the hot throw (scent smelling when lit) unless you use anywhere from 8%-12%. 1oz per pound is roughly only 6%, and I think that is probably where the problem lies. Try upping your scent, Have you tried only double wicking? It may be getting too hot and...

    Wick size - please advise

What size of flat braid is it? For my tapers I use a 15-18 flat braid, use paraffin wax mixed with stearic and rarely get dripping, unless the taper has somehow cooled crooked (I only make hand-dipped tapers). Looks like you are using a soy wax blend which will most likely be a very soft wax...

Need advice on soap mold purchase please

Yes you are right, I forgot it is a bit smaller. It's a 42oz total mold so will actually only make a 2.5 lb soap loaf.

Need advice on soap mold purchase please

I use a 3lb soap loaf mold like this. The silicone is thin, but so is the wooden box it comes in. Yes, it will insulate it a bit more, but with it being thin, it doesn't contribute to that much of insulation to overheat the soap. To avoid partial gel, soap cool and put it in the...

What Other Wax Can I Use?

I think they are very expensive, and not as good of quality as other Essenitial oil companies - however, with that being said, I don't use EO's in candles. IMO they just do not work as well, not give off as good of a scent as FO's, they are expenive and not worth it in candles. But that's just...

What Other Wax Can I Use?

Soy isn't the only wax people use for massage candles. No, it's because people work so hard to get a candle to burn correctly in the first place, and with "massage" candles literally after the first massage there is no way possible it will ever burn correctly again. Not to mention the ick...

    Weird melt

Did this happen after the candle was extinguished? Is this soy wax, and a wooden wick? Soy gives that weird texture depending on the type of soy it is, and it could be discolored due to it being a wooden wick. However, I'm just guessing off of the picture - since you gave us no other...

    Costco or Sams Club?

    Costco or Sams Club?

you need all those jobs whether it's self check or a manned check-out. It does take jobs away - from teenagers, or single mothers that just need something to get by, or any number of reasons a person may need a job, but don't necessarily have a degree. Those jobs you listed all usually require...

Can I gel goats milk soap?

It can smell pretty rank when mixing with the lye and even until about 1-2 weeks into the cure, but that smell usually will dissapate and the frangrance scent will come through. I always use fresh from the goat, frozen GM for my GM soaps (my aunt and cousins own a goat/sheep farm so I can get...

Can I gel goats milk soap?

I know this has been asked and answered, but thought I'd chime in as well. GM soaps are fine to be gelled (and even cpop or hp - to an extent) - once the GM is mixed with oils and is in the mold there is a rare chance of it scorching the gm, just a chance of it overheating and causing cracking...

    Strange texture

Sorry you never got an answer - if you are still around here is your answer - nothing is wrong with the candle. That is the nature of soy wax, and just what it looks like once it hardens. You can take a heat gun and smooth it out, however, once they are burned that bumpy top will come back. HTH

    Wax melts

Any candle making supplier will have them. Candle Science Natures Garden Aztec Candles and Supplies These are the main suppliers I get my candlemaking supplies from. There are a few others, but these are what comes to mind off the top of my head. :)

    Wax melts

I use a votive and pillar wax at a 3/1 ratio. The votive wax give it the smoothness and scent through while the pillar wax gives it the hardness to hold its shape. I never use more than 6% fragrance. If a scent doesn't perform well at that percentage, I call it a dud and won't use it. The combo...

Optimal temperature for mixing oils with lye in the CP process?

As others have said, there are no hard/fast rules. I soap at RT. Meaning both my oils and my lye solution is at the temperature of my room. I've been soaping for 20 years now, and I have never once used a thermometer for my soapmaking. Some people do the heat transfer method - meaning their...

Halloween help OR can you attach M&P to CP?

I used to do it all the time - I would add M&P embeds to the face of my soaps. I would just scrape a bit of the CP soap off where I wanted to attach, wet it a little, then attach them with a little bit of melted M&P. Unless someone was really rough with it, they wouldn't fall off until about the...

    Tips for tallow candle making?

ALL waxes release carcinogens and VOCs. ALL have been studied and it has been proven - through thorough studies - time and time again, that no one wax is any better or worse than any other type of wax. If the candle is made correctly, with the right wick and scent load, any candle can burn...
