Thank you, I think I will go ahead and cut at 24 hours.

    Raw Honey

Use it absolutely! I made a Melt and Pour honey/oatmeal using 4 of my castile bars as the base. Heavenly! It took several weeks to harden but was well worth it. I am currently insulating a CP Oatmeal/honey found on Kathy Miller's web site. Make sure you research how or even if you need to...

Insulating time for lard base with honey.

Making my first Lard based soap it's been insulating in the mold (trash bag lined Mason Jar box ) for about 14 hours. Just read should not insulate soap with honey, of course my soap has 1/4 cup honey. Just went to check on it still very warm, seems fairly hard. I was originally going to keep...

    Help, got ash.

Had ash with my first Castile soap that took FOREVER to harden. My errors were a) used tap water b) did not stir to a complete trace and possibly did not insulate well enough. I have a lard based soap insulating now, just peeked, no ash. I am experimenting with the ash (lemonade from lemons...

Sequestering liquid soap: Does it improve over time?

I had made liquid dish soap about 2 months ago and really wasn't impressed, at first. I stuck it under the sink and there it sat for the last 2 months. I ran out of my 7th Generation so grabbed "My" soap. I was amazed at a) how much more bubbly it was then before and b) how it did not feel...

    Compeating with Dawn

Ok, made the liquid soap, did NOT go smoothly. Being knew, I likely bit off more than I should have. Regardless, it worked. I wanted to quite at least 3 times but persevered. It took me somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 hours, plus over night rest, and then another couple hours of reheat...

    Just some new soaps

Very nice! I can't wait to start getting creative with my soaps! So far unscented castile (for my base) and today liquid dish soap. This week, I want to do something fun.

    To lame to figure out

Update...I ended up just leaving it alone and yay! It worked out, almost, beautifully. The only issue is a thin chalk layer on top, which I've read about. So what did I learn? Had a light trace should have gone longer, but it worked'ish, and the olive oil needs to set longer then most soaps...

    Compeating with Dawn

I am completely new here, however this thread caught my eye since dish soap is what has sent me on my quest for soap making. I found two youtube videos, which is step by step but you can see her recipe. Here is one, I plan to use, I haven't made it yet because I wanted to use my own Castile as...

    Good Soap Making Books

Can any one recommend a good soap book? There are soooo many out there. As an example, I have several bread making books, but I always seem to go back to the same one time and time again. So, looking for something similar as it relates to soap making.

    To lame to figure out

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I did weigh every ingredient, and double checked! I think trace was my issue. I am still letting it set up. I've resisted every temptation to remelt since it seems to firm up every day and the oil resting on top has reabsorbed. I am going out of town, so we will...

    To lame to figure out

72 oz Olive oil 14 oz coconut 12 oz lye 24 oz water Again, my first batch ever. I think after 40 minutes with a whisk and spoon, I was optimistic that the light trace was actually the full trace. The consistency was similar to condensed milk. Think I'll run to Walmart for a stick blender.

    To lame to figure out

First of all, what a great resource for some one just starting out. I love tapping into the resources of so many. Problem is, I made my first batch of Castile Soap. After 2 days it's the consistency of pudding. Followed Kathy Millers Castile with no palm recipe. I think the problem is I...
