    Soap recipes

I have been using a recipe for some time (see below) but would like to make a soap with a better lather. I am trying to avoid palm oil and animal products. I read @DeeAnna article (with much interest!) on the properties of the fatty acids and the concept of "longevity" vs. "Hardness". I have...

DeeAnna, what you do is fascinating. I learned SO much from your incredible article about soap qualities. Thanks for pointing out the forum with recipes :-)

Changing Superfat % does not change soap bar quality values in SoapCalc?

Is there a place on this forum where people (like you!) have posted their favorite recipes?

Changing Superfat % does not change soap bar quality values in SoapCalc?

Thanks. It just seems like the soap would be less creamy and conditioning with a low superfatted bar.

Changing Superfat % does not change soap bar quality values in SoapCalc?

I just noticed that when I reduced the superfat % in SoapCalc that the soap bar qualities did not change. The only difference in the printed recipe was the superfat % and lye amount. I would think that reducing the superfat % would result in a lower Creaminess score, a higher Cleanliness...

    Shipping costs!!!

I just looked through the FO Review spreadsheet (AWESOME!) and picked a couple of FOs that I would like to buy from Brambleberry. However, the shipping cost is MORE than the FOs! Is there a supplier who offers free (or reasonable) shipping? I don't make soap that often so I don't want to buy...

Is there a tried and true HP soap recipe used successfully by many people?

Thanks, DeeAnna. I'm really looking for any soap recipe (HP or CP) that is a hard, long-lasting, conditioning bar without using palm oil and falls within the "soap bar quality" ranges in SoapCalc.

Is there a tried and true HP soap recipe used successfully by many people?

I'm wondering if there is a really good recipe - a "standard" one used by many people? I'd like to make a hard, long-lasting, conditioning bar without using palm oil.

Best concentrated essential oils for HP that lasting fragrance

Thanks for all the information - I really appreciate it. Looking at New Directions now.

Best concentrated essential oils for HP that lasting fragrance

Thanks - this will be helpful! I usually use a single EO, because I don't want to "muddy" the fragrance. I always store the soap bars in an open container (covered on top with a paper towel) - I always heard that there needs to be some airflow i.e., never store in plastic One of my favorite...

Zany - thanks so much! I use 1 to 1.5 oz per 2-lb batch of hot process soap

Best concentrated essential oils for HP that lasting fragrance

No matter what essential oils I use in my HP soap, the fragrance seems to diminish significantly within 2 months. 1) Does anyone have any thoughts on how to preserve the fragrance for a longer period of time? 2) I prefer using all natural ingredients - I'm not sure if any fragrance oils are...

    Cost Per Bar --- Labor

I am also including the time that it takes to cut the bars, print/cut labels and wrap the bars as well as bag in cellophane bags and tie off with a bow. It takes me 20 minutes just to measure all the oils an mix the lye!

    Cost Per Bar --- Labor

I've been looking at the forum threads on cost per bar. My material costs are currently around 1.80/bar. I will need to buy in bulk to reduce this cost. The essential oil prices are especially really killing me. The question I have is with labor costs --- when I consider the following...

HELP ---Too much lye in the water - now hardened to container!!

Thanks, Lindy... that is exactly what I did. Also, I suited up with mask and gloves but there was no adverse reaction from adding vinegar to the lye (I added straight vinegar). It took appr 5 minutes for the hardened lye to break off and dissolve, but all is well now!
