    Lye-Dipped Pretzels (Laugenbretzel)

Look what I missed, when I take a few days off from reading new threads! Thanks much IrishLass for taking the time to post your wonderful recipe, photos and personal notes. I am originally from Greater Philadelphia, and have longed to duplicate soft pretzels from a good recipe. In so many ways...

In memory of the world's best kitty

You saved Sheba and gave her a wonderful life, in return you received her loyalty and love. I have found (mostly), those who love and care for animals are unselfish, tender souls who never seem to run out of the gift of giving. There is another needy kitty out there, somewhere - she'll find you...

    Can anyone identify this?

I use Middleton Irish Whiskey boxes lined with parchment. Soap slides out easily-no problem. Boxes are a nice size, with dovetail corners, and a hinged lid giving me enough air space to be creative without ruining the top of the loaf. You'll get the hang of using that box before you know it...

A question for all you bee keeper people :)

Oh my, run, run run...this is a great price and opportunity. If you can possibly meet the gentleman one day and perhaps arrange a soap barter -all the better! Years ago a man stopped by our property and asked if he could set out bee boxes because we had so many locust trees growing. At...

    Homemade buttermilk for soaping

Thank you for the great explanation from first hand experience! I knew that the Internet recipe for buttermilk was actually soured milk, but it was the only recipe I found. I wish there was a way to make true homemade buttermilk... When I was a little kid, I accidentally made homemade butter...

    OMG! A RETURN customer!

I'm not a "seller" persae and really don't want to go that route, but a friend of mine (and her husband) absolutely love my pumpkin soap. It started out as a giveaway, then a barter, and now real sales. I never intended to sell. My goal was to make soaps to correct/help winter dry skin for my...

    Homemade buttermilk for soaping

I used an internet recipe to make my own buttermilk using fresh lemon, but it is aged a week or two before soaping. I fill a wide mouth quart Mason jar with milk (used many kinds of milk), then squeezed half a lemon into it and stir. Instead of capping it, cover with clean cheese cloth than...

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

I have long hair to the middle of my back, and love these shampoo bars. My husband tried it for the first time over the weekend and is he really happy with the "squeaky clean" feeling afterwords. We both used reduced amounts of conditioner-which now seems to go a lot further... I have used ACV...

Lemon Peppermint Soap--Did I Overdo it?

It helps me to adhere to a Top, Middle, and Base note when blending essential oils to produce a long lasting scent. There are many h:)elpful websites full of information referencing blending. Hope it helps . http://www.essentialoils.co.za/blending_fragrances.htm

    Olive Oil Price Increase

I think this is the article. http://www.oliveoiltimes.com/olive-oil-business/europe/spain-denies-it-overproduces-olive-oil/31566 where it discusses why an eventual erosion of olive oil surpluses is likely by 2020. Interesting website, includes not only the market and politics of the industry...

    Farm fresh eggs

I have chickens as well. One of our favorite snacks to make is Egg Custard with nutmeg, topped with a mound of homemade whipped cream. A great year round treat that you can dress up to your liking. We love our girls!

    Wow-holy soap info!

Georgia I used lavender infused olive oil, which turned out to be a very very very light scent (I infused allot stems leaves and flowers) for a small 2lb batch. Thankfully there are so many choices, you will soon develop favorites of your own. It's all part of the creative process.
