Does beeswax really make for a harder soap?

High castor? Couldn't the higher amount of castor also contribute to a softer bar? It can also kill lather in a higher amount. I've never went over 8% for my bars. You get great lather from coconut and palm so why kill it? Palm, coconut and olive oil bars will be quite hard once cured so I...

    Major disaster!!!

What I haven't seen mentioned so far is if you decide to go the NON gel route with the fridge or freezer or a combo of them both, you don't unmold it or cut it until it doesn't zap. This can take up to several days. Since you are preventing the gel with the cold temps, it takes a lot longer for...

I need help to save a botched batch !

I'm puzzled as to why my thread got moved? Is it because I posted my recipe? I just found it so sorry for the slow replies. I should also add that this batch was first made using cold process. I did zap test after the re batch and yup, got zapped :( I probably added the lye too quickly and...

I need help to save a botched batch !

I didn't strain the lye solution but it was a new disposable cup I used to weigh the lye in and a washed and dried (at least a week) bowl that I use to mix in. With the coconut milk, it was just too hard to see if there was any clumping going on. So I guess I should have asked, doesn't coconut...

I need help to save a botched batch !

I'll start by giving my recipe, I'd really like to save it because it's my first with BB's Blue Man scent which dh seems to love. It was a 2 lb batch, frozen coconut milk for full water at 6% super fat. It came out with lye crystals scattered throughout. I already tried to rebatch it...

No Gel Goat Milk Soap Question

I just made a 2lb batch of goat milk using Coconut, lard, olive and castor. I have a wooden mold with a silicone liner that I froze over night. I used frozen GM, and waited until my oils were cooled off, added my lye slowly to the frozen goatmilk and just kept stirring the lye mixture. I then...

Pumpkin soap wedding favors, make it or buy it?

Also, since I didn't see it mentioned and you've only made a few batches, you might want to be careful on picking your fragrance unless you don't care if it turns brown. When I first started soaping, some that I wouldn't have thought had vanilla or otherwise discolored, did and I ended up...

    whipped soap

It would also be a huge bar if it weighed 4oz and was whipped :D For me, after a long cure, they last just a bit less than a regular CP bar of the same size, (not weight). Remember, whipped soap is supposed to float.

    Shelf life of lard soap?

I have used extra virgin and have it stay a bit green when making a hot process castile but it smelled fine, almost sweet. I've also used some regular olive oil that was golden in color go rancid on me and yes, the soap smelled as well. Have you smelled your olive oil yet? I haven't had any...
