    Bud’s Cutter

Broke a cutter wire on my beloved cutter and of course, I cannot locate the spare that Bud includes. Does anyone what gauge guitar string/wire to use? Thanks!

    Pine tar soap

Pine tar is the only recipe I make exclusively using the hot-process method, as this has completely eliminated any seizure issues for me. Plus I really like the ‘primitive’ look of the bars using this method.

Upcoming New Year Castile Soap Project

Actually, it's going to be a Bastile this year as I'm giving Castile a break. In prior years I've made 'conventional' CP, heavy lye CP, and 'conventional' HP, and in all honesty, am unable to detect any differences in lather-ability. I can't say I don't like Castile, it's just that I don't...

    Tousseh Silk Fibers

I cut my silk into tiny pieces on top of my weighed-out water, then sprinkle my weighed-out lye on top of it ensuring the lye 'sink' all the silk in the container. I then gently stir periodically while I weigh out my oils and allow the lye/water mixture to cool. I've never not had all my silk...

    salt soap cure

I was unable to detect NO difference when using them in my shower side-by-side, between salt bars that were cured 4 weeks, 1+ year, and 2+ years. Seriously .... NO difference. My standard recipe for salt bars is 90% CO, 10% castor, 20% SF, with 50% salt. Long cures definitely makes a huge...

Sugar as a bubble booster in a salt bar?

I'm gonna' give sugar a go next time I make some. A slab mold with dividers are the 'bees-knees' as far as making salt bars are concerned - no need to worry about when to cut - also, my most recent batch of salt bars are absolutely LOVELY after just 4 weeks of cure-time. Seriously, I am unable...

    Salt Bar Comparisons

Over the course of the past few days during my morning showers, I've been alternating between a 2 year+ old salt bar, and a 4 week+ old salt bar. They are the EXACT same recipe: 90% CO, 10% castor, 20% SF, and 50% Kosher salt by oil weight. Everything I've read led me to believe there would...

    Lovely

Observation: I think the word lovely is used as a descriptor on this forum more than anywhere else ... Agree? DISCLAIMER!: I'm not being critical or mean-spirited in any way, shape, or form ... just observant, plus I believe the word lovely is, well, lovely!

    Soap Cutter Question

I can only imagine the metal one is every bit the equal in overall quality and high level of impeccable craftsmanship that his other cutters are. I have the Model 1 multi-cutter, the Single Wire Cutter, and the Adjustable Log Splitter. You will NOT be disappointed!

how much Coconut oil for a face soap

I can't imagine a better facial bar than the 'Genny / Lindy' Shampoo Bar recipe: Water as percent of oil weight: 35% Superfat: 6% Avocado Oil: 30% Castor Oil: 10% Olive Oil: 40% Shea Butter: 10% Soybean Oil: 10% AWESOME as a facial bar!

The Only Way to Make Salt Bars

LisaAnne - I bought the mold and inserts shortly after Christmas specifically for salt bars and used it for the first time yesterday. I just got done making another, identical batch (90% CO, 10% castor, 50% salt, 2 grams tussah silk, SF 20%) so I've only used it twice so far. With that being...

The Only Way to Make Salt Bars

They are huge - each one weighing about 12.75 ounces! I would have personally proportioned the dividers to make smaller bars, but there is a certain 'cool' factor with them being the blocky-size they are. Plus, given the high solubility of salt bars, I won't have to replace them as frequently...

The Only Way to Make Salt Bars

Used my Nurture Soap 12 pound slab mold with dividers for the first time to make salt bars ... clearly, the only way I'm going to make them from this point forward - what a great product!

    First Liquid Soap Making Experience

I made my first batch of liquid soap this evening via the Soaping 101 Liquid Castile Soap video. Everything appeared to work out just like in the video, so apparently there are no gremlins here in S.E. Michigan, at least not right now! I'm excited to venture down the path of this new aspect...
