    Adding milk after gel??

Thank you, lsg! It just occurred to me that adding things after the gel/right before the pour should in theory be the same as rebatching. And people use milk for rebatching pretty routinely, I think? So, theoretically, any additive that would be used in rebatching could be used at the end of...

    Adding milk after gel??

Hi -- I see there is a thread about adding pureed foods and someone made the comment that there is no expiration date as long as the food is pureed and goes through the saponification phase. I had been planning on trying some batches of HP where I would add some milk after the gel phase and...

    Honey question

I use 1-3% beeswax melted with the oils. Then add honey at trace for CP or before the pour for HP. I have not tried pollen or FO. Alchemy & Ashes, I LOVE that honey comb look of that soap above!!! :D

    vegetable shortening

Hi Lizflowers, I always use a lye calculator even when I'm following a recipe and not substituting any oils. I use the one here: http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php If you are substituting oils, you can use this to see if you need to change the lye amount. You won't find Crisco or...

    Soap Newbie saying hi

Hi. I'm Sarah from Montana and I have recently developed an addiction to soap-making. My story: I've always had problems with very dry skin, eczema, and even some small patches of what appeared to be psoriasis. Last summer, the problem reached a tipping point. I was on vacation and slathering...

Where to find lard and tallow

Hi. I have some family members who hunt and fish and I wanted to make them some odor cleansing soap bars for Christmas. Since they obviously do not mind animal fats, I thought I'd like to experiment with using lard or tallow. I have thus far seen only lard on the shelves of my grocery star and...

    Share your favourite recipe

Re: Share your favorite soap recipe Karen, your pumpkin soap sounds lovely. I have a question for you. At what stage did you add the purée and other additives? It sounds like you added them before trace?? Is there a reason you did not add them at the end of the cook?? Thank you for any...

Newbie ? Additives at trace v gel stage

Hi! Newbie here. Some of the Hot Process recipes I read talk about putting in additives - fragrance, milk, botanicals, exfoliants, colors, etc - at trace. This confuses me. That would seem to be the appropriate stage for additives if you were Cold Processing. But for HP, shouldn't the additives...
