OO, Lemon, and Deer, Oh my...

I'll add some lemongrass EO to my New year wish list. I should at least have a nice exfoliating bar with the lemon powder and ground lemon peel in it. Some of the reviews said the lemon smell comes through and some didn't, so I was not real sure on what would happen. I might try batches with the...

OO, Lemon, and Deer, Oh my...

here are the soaps I have done this past week with some new toys, I mean tools. Wife did the pictures so I hope they are fine. First is just a pic of all of them. Second is a soap with deer tallow instead of lard. First time soaping with deer. I used the Santa spruce FO mixed with some...

    Deer Tallow?

the deer tallow I rendered was much harder than the lard I use, but my lard is store bought. My deer tallow soap is curing right now, so I do not have a way of making a comparison in soap quite yet. I made the same recipe, one with lard, and one with deer tallow. I got about 750 g from one deer...

    Starting CP soon. Any tips?

my advice, just do it. you can watch all the videos you want and read all you want, but the only true way to know what is being talked about is to experience it. After your first batch or two, you will find out where you need more advice, and where things went well for you. Your first batch...

    First attempts at lotion

I did not take pictures, but I will see about getting some of the next lotion batch. I am planning on doing that today or tomorrow. I have some CP soap I want to get done first. I got the Baby Bed time FO from WSP I want to try in a lotion. Also got my FCO in the mail. I think this batch will...

    lemon Powder

I got some Lemon powder from WSp to try in my cp soap. The information states it is water soluble. Do I add it to the water before adding the sodium hydroxide, or do I still go ahead and add it at trace. I am using it for a natural colorant and hopefully the smell. First time doing something...

    First attempts at lotion

thanks, panthenol will most likely be one of the first things I will try, well besides the standards stuff. I can use it in both hair and body products, could be a staple for about everything I make. I will keep sesame oil in mind when I decide to work on a facial moisturizer. I am a little...

    First CP Soap Recipe...Feedback?

I'd get rid of the funny percents. that will be very difficult to do. Example with your caster oil at 6.54% on a 32 ounce batch that would be 2.0928 ounces. Or a 950 gram batch that would be 62.13 grams. I find it best to stick with whole numbers, like 5%. My recommendation would be to use fewer...

    First attempts at lotion

Thanks, I might try an all oil lotion, Mine felt fine though. the 3% glycerin did not seem to make my lotion sticky. I was noting how sticky the store bought can be, and glycerin tends to be the second ingredient on the list. Michael

    First attempts at lotion

FCO is pretty light from what I hear. Would it be best to drop the water down a little when using that one? say a 65% water phase instead of a 70%. Michael

    First attempts at lotion

made my first batch, well three batches of lotion, and I think it went well. 66.5% water, 3% glycerin, 7.5% SAO, 7.5% avocado oil, 3% cetyl alcohol, 6% polawax, 0.5% preservative, 1% FO, and 5% butter. One batch was Shea, one was mango, and the last was cocoa butter. They all felt nice, but I...

    Recommendations for smelly feet

I would check with your supplier of lavender to see what their recommended usage rate is. Or start out with a total of .5% of EO in the soap. Because you are using two EOs, tea tree and lavender, I would start out with .25% of each for a total of .5% in the cp. The soap would still be usable...

    Recommendations for smelly feet

I know you said he can't stand wool socks, but has he tried Merino wool socks? I was against wool until I finally tried a pair. you can't even tell they are wool. I can wear the same pair for running 3 times a week at 60 minutes each and there is no noticeable odor. There is a company in Vermont...

50:50 lard:olive oil. The results are in.

An unscented high percent lard soap was my first, and it has the pig smell if you put your nose right up to it, but it is not really all that noticeable. Maybe the smell depends on where the lard is purchased from? Not sure. I used the same shelf stable lard for my soaps and pie crusts. I would...

    Where to get baking soda?

I get my sodium bicarbonate from WSP and my citric acid from Lotion Crafters. I think I paid $4.50 for 5 lb of sodium bicarbonate, and $5.50 for 2 lb of citric acid. Michael

    Oils for lotion

Thanks for the suggestions. I have done a few lotion bars, so I already have some butters and bee's wax. I do not care for lotion bars much. I need to do some more work on them, but they are either to draggy, or too oily for me. My wife and kids love them though, especially the one with coco...

    Oils for lotion

I am placing an order for some oils for soaping. I also want to try my hand at lotion making. Suggestions for good oils to start with? I will have OO, Rice Bran oil, coconut 76, SAO, caster oil, and avocado oil. I don't want to get any of the high dollar exotic oils at first. Should I also look...

    Coconut oil for the face

I think it is just going to depend on the skin. Some seem to break out from the use, and others swear by CO for clearing up acne. Michael

    Is brambleberry slow?

I live in Nebraska, and it is going to take 2 weeks to the day to get my order. this was not my first order with them, but at this rate it will be my last. As of now, according to their website, they are 10 days behind on orders. A little slower due to the holiday rush I can understand, but I...
