    charcoal soap

How did you get such a pretty and soft lime color in your soap? if you dont mind telling us, what color is it and from where? Those bars turned out beautiful!

    Book Help!

Everyone keeps saying "educate yourself on the properties of EOs! They can be dangerous for some people " etc etc. So I want to do that. Does anyone have any specific book recommendations on the topic? I know there are plenty EO books out there but which ones have you found to be especially...

Looking for a strong Cherry FO

I can not get enough of BB's Black Cherry FO. It's a very strong cherry that I think would work in a cherry pie soap. Worth looking into. Good luck!

What are your favorite cinnamon or clove scents?

I just received a really nice Orange Clove FO from WSP the other day. I haven't soaped it yet but I plan to make a nice beer soap with it for the holidays. It smells ahhhmazing and I'm not usually a big clove person.

    HP first time

It helps very much, thank you! One more question... Once your soap has come to trace, do you put the soap on low? And how long does it usually take for your "island" to disappear? (I guess that was two questions) I've read some tutorials.. I manage and get mine to cook but my crockpot is giving...

    Vanilla in rebatch soap

I CP'd some Lemon Poundcake FO from Wholesale Supplies Plus and it turned a brown sugar color (and the scent morphed and lost all the pretty buttery notes). I love the FO so much in the bottle I have to try again, but next time I plan on HPing it (to keep the scent delicious) and throwing in...

    HP first time

I have this problem actually!! Little hardened soap scraps that are lighter in my soap. So you are saying just to not stir, scrape off any additional soap above the main soap "line" and not mix it in, right? I just want to make sure I understand what you said. Thanks!

    HP first time

And also keep your eye on that crockpot! I know it seems like a no-brainer but that temp can creep up on you fast and then you have soap bubbling out of the crockpot. Like me two nights ago.

    HP first time

Prepare for it to separate after trace. This happened with my last two batches (ive only done hp 3 times now - im usually a CPer) and I just stick blend it back together. I googled separation in HP and found tutorials that include separation as something that is to be expected. ::shrugs:: Not...

    Discoloration/Darkening...What could have happened?

I'm pretty sure Moonlight Pomegranate (at least the one from Brambleberry) has vanilla in it. It says on the BB site that it turns brown. I like WSP's vanilla stabilizer. I've only used it a couple times but it seems to be doing its job in my soap. Anyhow, I think your soap looks beautiful in...

how to get that boozy smell

Regarding the Brambleberry Champagne FO, I have to say I wanted to love it but was pretty disappointed. In the bottle it was pretty nice - smelled like ginger ale fizz. But after Soaping it.. it just smells weird. I don't really know how to describe it. Not sure if it was my recipe or what. Try...

    The training wheels are off

I read a few soapmaking books back in Feb and began soaping in April I think, so I'm pretty new. I would completely agree with the whole starting simple idea! I was pretty ambitious after just a few attempts - some went well, some did not. And there are just so many variables in soapmaking as it...

    The training wheels are off

Congratulations on your first solo soapmaking! It can seem a bit scary in the beginning (and even later) but that's why soapmaking is so interesting! You'll have many soaps not go exactly according to plan (happens to all of us) but it appears your first attempt was a success, and thats more...

    So confused!!

I was actually planning on HPing the batch. Do you think that would solve the insulating issue?

    Making Soap Recipes

Hot process can technically be used immediately after it has been cooked but its not quite hardened yet. I like to give it a few days to a week to harden further first. Some soapers prefer to wait a few weeks but I feel like its hard enough after a few days or so. It'll most likely be ok...

    Making Soap Recipes

You made cold process soap? CP takes at least a few weeks to harden. Sometimes up to 6 or 8 weeks.
