What is happening to my soap??

Test this liquid to see if it zaps. If it does then you can either rebatch it you can wait and see if the liquid gets absorbed back in. It could also be fragrance/essential oil that didn't get fully mixed in. Oooor you soap could be sweaty.

Um, bleh! Was your review also removed from the products main page as well? I hope not. :\

    To Rebatch, Or Not Rebatch...?

Yep, I concluded that as well. :D Next time I'll be more patient.

    To Rebatch, Or Not Rebatch...?

Welp, even if I was never worried about having non-dissolved lye I'll definitely be rebatching. I waited too long to cut, look how horribly they came out! Also, a mysterious orange spot of mysteriousness! Doesn't zap.

    To Rebatch, Or Not Rebatch...?

I'm working on slicing it right now...I think the top of the soap that was exposed to the air is firmer than the bottom because the silly thing wants to crumble a bit and bend even though it's not lye heavy! I have discovered random specks of orange that don't zap, I'm thinking that they...

    How do you lye?

I wear goggles, an apron and goggles when I make my lye solution. I always do it at the stove (which I cover with old newspapers) and I run the vent fan until the fumes die down...but still I try to keep my head turned away just in case.

    To Rebatch, Or Not Rebatch...?

My initial SF was 5%. I don't know for certain if there were any undissolved clumps of lye that got caught in the strainer, but it was full of globs of saponified milk fat, for sure. But then I have no clue if another clump of undissolved lye snuck by undetected once I gave up using the strainer.

    To Rebatch, Or Not Rebatch...?

...that is the question. XD So I was making my first ever batch of Castile soap, and I figured I'd use goat milk as my liquid. So I add my lye to my frozen milk. One spoonful, stir, another spoonful, stir...methinks, well this is getting lame...*dumps the rest of the lye in* Stir, stir...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Throughout the day I found myself checking in on my unscented bastille soap I made yesterday...and smelling it. Why, whyyyy? *sigh* I don't know. Eventually I ever so gently managed to slide it out of my mold. I look forward to cutting it tomorrow morning...and speaking of, I better go...

Lavender layers and a new mold

Very nice! I've been wanting to try making a tall soap in many layers for some time...this was a good reminder of that. :)

You know you're a crazy soap person when...

I had another dream about soapmaking last night. I remember playing with numbers of the different oils I was using in a recipe, tweaking it until I got it juuuuust right. I also remember visiting the forum and reading some threads. One person had bumped their thread (first posted 7 years...

Help! Soap Extremely Hard after 12 hours

With all the cocoa butter and shea butter it's not too surprising it's already hard. Awhile back I made a soap with a significant amount of palm oil and cocoa butter in it, my soap also got hard pretty darn fast and it was on the brittle side when I cut it too. More recently I made a triple...

    Some recent soapy experiments

Thanks! I used Brambleberry's Vertical mold and I slowly twisted the middle divider as I pulled it out so the swirl varies greatly from bar to bar. Like this!

    Some recent soapy experiments

One last soap! Would you believe it counted my emoticon as a picture?!? O_o No experimentation here, I call this one Balancing Act, it's scented with Anise and peppermint oils. Thanks for looking everyone!

    Some recent soapy experiments

Well, as the title suggests here are some pics of my most recent soap experiments. Whee! This one's 100% lard with adzuki bean for exfoliation. I remember reading around here that some people found these types of soaps great for facial skin. Another lard soap with adzuki bean, tomato...
