    plastic storage containers for molds

Another newbie here, but one of my first batches was done in Hefty plastic food containers and it all came out fine, but they were smaller, not one large container. One thing I didn't like was that I could not find containers wtih totally smooth bottoms so that there were no ridges, etc. I am...

    Trimming scraps

Oh, I really like this idea. I think I am going to give this a try and see how they look. Do you treat your small molds with anything before putting the soap in them?

    Not happy with Bulk Apothecary

I just received another e-mail from UPS letting me know that there was another UPS package coming my way, doesn't say from who, and I still haven't received any communication from Bulk Apothecary about the back ordered items. I have a feeling that the shipment coming is the small mold from Bulk...

    Not happy with Bulk Apothecary

I placed my first on-line order for soapmaking supplies with Bulk Apothecary in Ohio and I ordered and paid for 4 items. My shipment came in about a week, not too bad, but when I opened the package, there were only two items and the packing list showed 2 items as being back ordered, but no...

    My first soap efforts

So where do I learn about how to use poly tubing and where do you buy poly tubing? Is it available at local home repair stores like Home Depot and Lowes?

    Another preservative question.

Thank you, so much to learn.

    Another preservative question.

so if I put dill in my Lemongrass soap, I should have put a preservative? Since I didn't, how long do I have before something nasty starts to happen?

That's it, my first batch :)

I am a newbie too, and I am impressed. You did a great job with the tube mold, mine came out with some funny edges (I am sure I didn't wait long enough before trying to take it out--lack of patience). Took me three batches fore I had my first problem batch, and it was humbling. The first...

    Noob questions

How do you guys clean up your soaps. My first batches have been handled quite a bit by me, DH, DSIL, friends, etc. , and I have some flakes and dings, etc. I saw somewhere that one person used as pantyhose (maybe put on like a glove) to clean up. Any other tricks you guys know of to clean up...

    My first soap efforts

Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement, and I know I have a long way to go to get some of the beautiful results I have seen on this site and on youtube. All of my soaps were handled a lot, and I am wondering how you guys clean up your soaps, get the little flakes off without causing other...

    My first soap efforts

Thanks for directing me to this site. I can't wait to check it out further. I love her soaps, at least what I have seen in the first few posts, particularly that black and cream that she did.

    My first soap efforts

Thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions. I think my biggest problem is lack of patience. I want to pour, wait 24 hours and at the stroke of 24 hours, I am ready to unmold, and I am learning it doesn't always work that way. The tube mold came from Bramble Berry.

    My first soap efforts

The mold actually came with a liner and an end cap, but I still had a heck of a time getting it out. I was able to get the tube off, but then the soap and liner were stuck to the end cap. I have read that it might be a good idea to use vaseline on the end cap.

    I have a gloppy mess

Here is a pic of what the gloppy mess looked like after I cut it today. I think the soap looks like a flourless cake, and I trimmed off the edges that looked kind of crusty. It really did look fudgy and good enough to eat, and I only hope that it does lather up and clean. Sure isn't the...
